very common error that comes up when iTunes try to restore / update your device. This error usually occurs due to following reasons:- When we use unsigned firmware for upgrading / downgrading our iPhone, iPad or iPod. When the iPhone, iPad error 1394 itunes downgrade or iPod fails to communicate properly with iTunes. When iTunes fails to communicate Apple server or fails to resole Apple link. When there is some problem with restore process other than above. How to Fix Error 1394 Step-1: Disconnect your iPhone, iPad or iPod from USB of your Mac / Windows PC. Step-2: Close iTunes on your Mac / Windows PC. Step-3: Now locate "HOSTS" file in your OS files for Mac it is located at /etc/hosts and in Windows this error 1394 iphone restore is found at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Step-4: Open hosts with Administrator privileges. Step-5: Add "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" at the end of hosts file and save file before closing. Step-6: Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your Mac / Windows PC. Step-7: Launch iTunes. Step-8: Your Device will be detected. Step-9: Now restore your device as normal. On completion of restore, repeat above process up till step-5 but here instead of adding remove the previously added line or correct functioning of iTunes. The IP address we associated with gs.apple.com is actually a Cydia Fame server's IP, by which we faked iTunes to verify signature of iOS we want to upgrade / downgrade.
