1402 Error Quicktime

I got here via a post made by Allan on the Apple iTunes boards in response to this post:"When I install iTUnes 5.0.1.4 I get this weird problem. Error 1402. Could not open key: >HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe. Verify thay you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. Then a window with the text: Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information. The problem is that I have read that you should do a backup or create that registry, but the problem is... I cant delete it, or add new keys in it. "(Allans Reply)I'm guessing that a simple .reg file with the command to delete the key will work for you (assuming you are logged in as admin). Go to my forum (link below) and post your problem in total (without the histrionics ) in the Windows XP Support Forum. Then ask if anyone can provide a .reg file to delete that key or has any other thoughts on how to delete it. I run the forum but am not as technical as the mods who work with me and rather than taking a chance on providing the wrong info I'd rather you post there and get a response from someone more knowledgeable than I. I'll monitor your thread when you get there. Here's the link: http://forum.tweakxp.com/ I have been having a terrible problem trying to update to iTunes 6 on my XP box. When I try to upgrade to iTunes 6 I get the installer"Error -3 " message followed by the failed to complete message.(It is hanging on the Quicktime install)When I try to do the standalone install of Quicktime I get this message:Error 1402. Could not open key: >HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime Verify thay you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.I also get the 1603 error message at the end of the install as the user referenced above didThe problem? I am an admin. and even more annoying,it won't let me edit the permissions for Quicktime (which,as I said earlier,is what is hanging the whole install). Can someone please provide me with a way to fix/delete this key as Allan described in his iTunes post? (above)(Even knowing how to gain acsess to chane permissions would be of great help)I would really appreciate it.Thanks in advance, Big Jim ` Join or Log in to Reply Page 1 of 12 Replies BuddyMuff 1 post Forum MembersPosted 10 years, 339 days ago I've been having the EXACT same problems as this guy, so am bumping this in hope of a response.
