And there are 1970 quarter weight actually 22 people interested in paying that amount for a 25-cent piece! The reason: Some of these quarters were formed over 1941 Canadian quarters, and the error is slightly visible. Just above the word "DOLLAR" are the upside-down markings of the year, 1941. Quarter? It Could Be Worth Thousands By Lindi Smith4 months facebook twitter pinterest eBayCheck your pockets! Your 25-cents could actually be worth thousands of dollars. If you have a 1970-minted quarter, keep it in a safe place and get it looked at. It was recently discovered that people are paying up to $35 thousand on eBay for the rare coin.Why is it so valuable? It's actually a minting error that is driving the price so high. This version of the 1970 quarter was actually formed over top of a 1941 Canadian quarter. If you look on the back of this coin, you'll spot an upside down 1941 mark on the back. It's located above the word "dollar." The man selling the coin for $35k on eBay is Mike Byers, and he's actually written a whole book on minting errors. Would anyone actually pay this amount? Apparently so. There are currently over 30 people interested in bidding on the rare coin.Don't get too excited, though! The coin wasn't actually circulated. In fact, after the minting, the collection of mistake quarters was given to the state of California where it was then auctioned off.
