Does anyone have any thoughts? I can’t check the SQL Server Books Online topics because they don’t install, either; and I can’t make sense of the log files without them. The best way to do this is to create a Virtual Machine using HyperV in Windows 8, or VMWare WorkStation, install a trial copy of Windows 7, install a trial copy of SQL 2005 and upgrade it with all the latest Service Packs. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information." Generally this error can occur if there were remnants of an old SQL server installation on the computer. TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AND INSTALL SQL TRY THIS: Select Cancel on this error, if this has not been done yet 1. Browse to C:\Program Files\ and look for a folder called Microsoft SQL Server 2. Right click on this folder and select Rename 3. Rename the folder Microsoft SQL Server1 4.
