This discussion is locked Darksideuk Level 1 (0 points) Q: Advent 9617 laptop error 2131 when burning audio CD in itunes I purchased my advent 9617 notebook 2 weeks ago and am unable to burn audio discs as I keep getting an error code, "the attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred 2131". I've been reading about this problem with dell notebooks and have tried to install their patch but its not compatable with my drive. I called my support number and was taken through a few steps to rectify it to no avail. When I told him everything else worked fine burning he said they would not support me as it is a software problem with itunes.Has anyone else had the same probs with an Advent machine? Its an Advent laptop running Vista and has a TSST CDDVDW TS-L632H drive. Found this online so far.... This is a problem with the Toshiba hardware (specifically the CD/DVD Combo drive made by Samsung). The problem is not with iTunes but with the firmware in the drive. Looking around the web there are a few laptops with this problem all with the same optical drive - more than one toshiba laptop has this problem (including your Equium 200 and also mine sadly) - Dell laptops with the same drive have the same error. So if you have a TSST TS-L632H slim 8x DVD+/-RW drive (check it out in Control Panel -> Device Manager) then you will (probably) have this problem. The difference between Dell and Toshiba is that Toshiba Technical support (at least up until 11th January 2008) claims that it is a Third-Party Software problem (and therefore decline to provide any after-sales support). It is not, it is a hardware problem. Dell has not only established the source of the problem but have also already provided their customers with a firmware update to download and fix the problem (and this update has been available since 28th November 2007).
