I http://sanuja.com/blog/resolving-iis-403-forbidden-access-is-denied am setting up a simple website on Windows Server 2008 R2 under IIS 7.5 using the "ASP.NET v4.0" pool. I am setting this up as an application under Default Web Site with a different root. I keep getting the 403 Forbidden error. I have: Installed asp.net using aspnet_regiis.exe -i (many times) Made sure my root directory (physical path) has permissions for "IIS_IUSR" and "IUSR" users. Made sure "Anonymous Authentication" is enabled and set to "Application http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11111911/iis-7-5-403-forbidden Pool Identity" I have restarted IIS numerous times I have checked and double-checked every other configuration. What's strange is that I have another application under Default Web Site and it works just fine. Any suggestions will help. This shouldn't be so hard unless I am missing something obvious. asp.net windows iis iis-7.5 share|improve this question edited Jun 20 '12 at 12:24 asked Jun 20 '12 at 2:05 dotnetster 8611818 Questions on professional server- or networking-related infrastructure administration are off-topic for Stack Overflow unless they directly involve programming or programming tools. I guess it is because an SSL is bound to the Default Web Site. Removing that check made it work. Hopefully this will help someone else. share|improve this answer answered Jun 20 '12 at 13:18 dotnetster 8611818 I came to a similar problem and noticed the same port was in use for a different matter –DanielV Sep 3 '15 at 9:08 What if you want require https checked? You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. At a very high level under IIS server if you receive 403 error code means the content is forbidden but if you deeply check the server logs from IIS you will get an error code like 403.1 or 403.16 or 403.20. For a complete list please follow the under given link which will give you more idea about the error code and description. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/318380 I faced under given error which took my one month to figure out the solution. 403.16 – Client certificate is untrusted of invalid.I would like to elaborate my environment a little bit so that it becomes more clear why i was getting this error. I configured a web application on IIS8.5 which requires a client SSL certificate for authentication. Client certificate and server certificate were completely perfect and everything seems normal. Both certificates were from the same CA and trust each other without any problem. None of them were even near to expiry date. Still application was giving this error code: 403 – Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. I Google every bit to find a solution which could solve my problem but still found nothing. Many users shared about windows updates which were released to cure the SCHANNEL vulnerabilities but created these kinds of problem
