404 Error Buddypress
Navigation Links Return 404 Errors A common error after installation of BuddyPress from within the WordPress admin panel is to not set pretty permalinks. If you fail to do this then all of the links in the header will return 404 errors. To fix this problem, enter the WordPress admin panel > Settings > Permalinks – set to any configuration other than the default configuration. The mod_rewrite must be enabled on your server for pretty permalinks to work. I am using the latest WP and BP and I am receiving an error message when clicking "Public message" to message someone. Any idea why? Thanks J Viewing 4 replies - 1 through 4 (of 4 total) @mercimeModerator @mercime 2 years, 11 months ago @jloc14 We need more information about your installation. What theme are you using? What plugins are activated? If you change to BP Default theme, is the issue resolved? JLent.Participant @jloc14 2 years, 11 months ago Sorry, I am using the Sweet Date theme by themeforest. Once I activate BP default the same thing https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/getting-started/navigation-links-return-404-errors/ happenes. But now I've deactivated all plugins except Buddypress and I cant even view profiles, the 404 message comes up. My permalinks are set to day and name and everything else looks fine just cant figure it out. JLent.Participant @jloc14 2 years, 10 months ago @mercime I still can't figure it out as of right now. I have deactivated my plugins, deactivated my theme, deleted https://buddypress.org/support/topic/404-error-message/ my theme and manually re-installed it and that didn't work either. I recently switched hosting companies do you think that has something to do with it? JLent.Participant @jloc14 2 years, 10 months ago Problem solved. The reason Public Message was redirecting me to a 404 error is because I did not have Activity Stream set up. At first I did not want it but now its best to keep it. Closed 5 years ago #1433 closed defect (bug) (invalid) Creating groups results in 404 error Reported by: shevdog Owned by: Milestone: Priority: major Severity: normal Version: 1.2.6 Component: Core Keywords: groups create 404 Cc: rbaccaro Description The BuddyPress setup I have is: IIS7/Win2k8 WPMU 2.8.6 BuddyPress 1.1.3 (Host is GoDaddy with Windows Unlimited plan). I host several Wordpress blogs and haven't had any rewrite issues. WPMU by itself works fine, no know issues. As a super admin, when I go to my profile, then "Groups > Create New Group", I get a 404 error. Same issue was happening with BP 1.1.3. I am wondering if this is a rewrite error or something else? Any related issues or know fixes? Since this BuddyPress install is in development, I can do whatever I need to do on it. The bottom line is: the pages are not loading based on the links generated on the UI. For example: ERROR: http://taxblog.mobi/members/www/profile/edit/ WORKING: http://taxblog.mobi/members/www/profile/edit/group/1 The same installation but using Linux and Apache works just fine. So I guess it is something related to IIS rewrite rules. #3 @r-a-y 6 years ago Try this: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/404-error/ And see
