Even when I change the setting back it does not resolve the error. To make matters worse now my Central Admin site http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/4366/how-do-debug-sharepoint-404-errors returns the same 404 error. Looking at the source for the 404 error page I see an HttpError...CheckSuspiciousPhysicalPath. Any ideas on how to debug this would be great. central-administration page-not-found 404 share|improve this question edited Aug 12 '10 at 21:26 Wictor Wilen MCA MCM MVP 17.3k3059 asked Jul 28 '10 at 23:27 ChiliYago 1,09063154 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted For 404's I generally check this Can anyone else access the page? I found to my horror that Sharepoint Central Administration (CA) is gone, and returns a 404 error. The exact message is like "HTTP/1.1 404 Connection: close Date: Fri, 09 Sep 2011 13:27:11 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET MicrosoftSharepointTeamServices:12.0.0.6300″. The solution: we changed the account under which the application pool is running the CA website back to what it should be - a system admin account. For some unknown reason, it was changed from the system admin account to the account that runs the Quest migration tool xxxx\questmigrationsvc. And most likely because that account does not have enough permissions and cannot load the Sharepoint types from the assemblies to service the requests to the CA site.
