this, but would really like this fixed ASAP! November 29, 2012 at 6:43 am #98551 DudeModerator Hey! Did you try to deactivate all third party plugins? Maybe a plugin hooks into the comments system and causes this error. Regards, Peter November 29, 2012 at 2:06 pm #98552 daclementsParticipant Yes, I only had 5 active plugins (none of them related to comments) wordpress 404 error page not working and I just deactivated them all, emptied my caches and tried commenting again, but I encountered the same error. Not sure if this is a factor, but I'm on Multisite. Wouldn't think that that would be an issue, but I figured I'd mention it. November 29, 2012 at 2:15 pm #98553 daclementsParticipant OK, I figured it out. It was a rule in my htaccess file that was causing this. In an effort to block spam, I added a rule (below) to redirect people trying to access wp-comments-post.php directly back to themselves. I hadn't updated the rule to include this domain: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .wp-comments-post.php* RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*doitwithwp.com.* [OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$ RewriteRule (.*) ^http://%{REMOTE_ADDR}/$ [R=301,L] Author Posts Viewing 4 posts - 1 through 4 (of 4 total) The topic ‘404 error when trying to post a comment' is closed to new replies. I also don't get any error from http://www.andreayximoaroundtheworld.com/wp-comments-post.php. Try clearing your browsers cache. Sorry for the "test"-comment 🙂 davidbelzunce @davidbelzunce 2 months, 2 weeks ago I just don't understand why, but I'm still getting the error. Even clearing the cache. Anybody else get the error? Thanks VeVas @vevas 2 months, 2 weeks ago Are https://wordpress.org/support/topic/comments-get-404-error-wp-comments-postphp/ you using any security og spam plugins? Some may block comments. davidbelzunce @davidbelzunce 2 months, 2 weeks ago Actually I'm not using any plugin. VeVas @vevas 2 months, 2 weeks ago Ok. It's very odd since it's working fine here. Have you tried commenting from a diffrent browser, without beeing logged in? davidbelzunce @davidbelzunce 2 months, 2 weeks ago Yes I tried with another browser, with my smartphone (Wi-Fi and GSM connection) and with another computer at home. Never worked. I tried by a web proxy site and it worked. Maybe somehow it is blocking some IP connections, but it's strange because I tried also with the GSM connection of my phone… davidbelzunce @davidbelzunce 2 months, 2 weeks ago I don't understand why, but from another place and with another connection the comments are running ok. Maybe WordPress blocked some IPs? Some people is telling me that they still can't make a comment because they get 404. Sakaane @sakaane 1 week, 5 days ago I also have users who have problems posting comments to my site because wp-comments-post.php returns a 404. In my case it only happens to them if they're using Chrome. If the same user changes to Firefox or Safari they can post just fine. I am also baffled; I have replaced
