I just did rm -rf baz/.svn and then was able to svn add, svn ci ... –MarkHu Dec 21 '12 at 9:34 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 55 down vote accepted This happens when you have added a directory that someone else has also added and already committed. The error message on a commit is really confusing, but if you do an svn up instead you'll see this message: bash-2.05b$ svn up svn: Failed to add directory 'baz': object of the same name already exists To resolve the issue, remove your directory (or move it aside) and do an svn update to get the version on the server and re-do your changes. As a general rule, be sure to do svn update since the error messages tend to be more helpful. share|improve this answer answered Sep 19 '08 at 3:50 Otto 7,584124461 6 Sometimes the problem arises but an update is useless because oddly enough Subversion does not try to retrieve the directory from the repository; this is often the case when using Tortoise SVN. The solution is then to access to the repository itself, e.g. using the Tortoise SVN "Repo-browser", and to delete the directory. Then you should be able to add and commit your local data to the repository. –Pragmateek May 18 '

repository failed. There are a few possible explanations and solutions. You may have performed an svn move twice before http://stackoverflow.com/questions/99391/how-do-i-fix-this-subversion-mkcol-error attempting to commit. Either move once and commit, or, if you decide after the move that you need to move it elsewhere, use svn revert to revert the first move, then svn move to move it where you want, https://svn.help.collab.net/entries/24785451-What-does-Subversion-405-Method-Not-Allowed-mean- then commit. Something in your working copy may have got confused. Run clean up on your working copy. If this option does not resolve the problem, try renaming the top-level folder of your working copy and check out a new copy. The length of your pathname could be causing issues. Windows doesn't support relative paths with more than about 255 characters. To avoid this, use absolute paths everywhere. One solution might be to check out the working copy into a shorter path. The size of your file could be causing timeout issues. This is more of an Apache issue, but it can cause svn errors. Add a comment Support Software by Zendesk
