Please refer the following steps to resolve it: 1. check the /var/log/messages log file on server getaddrinfo 'Hostname_Is_Here' error: Name or service not knownwarning: unable to determine IP address of 'host.domain.tld domain' This is because FTP server cannot determine IP address of the server by hostname. 2. Try to PING Hostname #ping hostname If ping does not respond, 421 service not available remote server has closed connection passive mode refused you will have to define the correct hostname in the configuration files as follows and restart network service. /etc/hosts/etc/sysconfig/network/etc/init.d/network restart 3. If still the following error occurs Authentication failed for user [anonymous] Please check whether your local machine's ip is blocked. You see that csf has blocked it. Unblock it and restart the firewall. That should solve the issue. FTP server won't allow logins, it is probably configured correctly, http://archive.oreilly.com/pub/faqs/linux_faq_AEN3511 but the problem is probably with authorizing users at login. FTP servers in current distriubtions often authorize users with the Pluggable Authentication Modules library, in which case there should be an authorization file /etc/pam.d/ftp. A generic authorization file looks like this. (The line break on the 421 service first "auth" line is for readability. The entry is actually a single, long line). #%PAM-1.0 auth required /lib/security/pam_listfile.so item=user \ sense=deny file=/etc/ftpusers onerr=succeed auth required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so shadow nullok auth required /lib/security/pam_shells.so account required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so session required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so Also, make sure the /etc/ftpusers file, or whatever users file 421 service not is named in the first "auth" line, is configured correctly.
