My problem is this: I am trying to develop a web site using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition, on a H-P Pavillion DV 8000 laptop which has XP Media Center Edition(i.e XP pro SP2) installed. The machine also has the .net framework 2.0 installed.IIS 5.1 installed, MSDTC installed. I am unable to make a website run with IIS. If I build a file system site it will run with the built in development server. I have been working on this for a solid 3 weeks, no luck. All I get is this(http 500 error) Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance. I have exhaustively gone through the IIS site forums under all topics. I have followed all of the recomendations that apply to my particular setup. I have combed through the Microsoft Knowledge Base extensivly for possible solutions. Again I have applied what I have read to my situation. Everything from NTFS permissions,Local security settings, User and Group permissions,aspnet_regiis.exe options, and so on. I installed Auth Diagnostics 1.0 and have been able to satisfy these options: server permissions all ok, user permissions all ok, registry permissions all ok. Authentication option performed on my site simply returns HTTP 500 error. I have browsed through several other forums including ASP.NET. I have again closely followed all possible fixes. No luck. Issues that stand out are as follows: 1. The server failed to load application,'LM/W3SVC' the error was "the specified metadata was not found." From event viewer. 2. regsvr32 C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll fails. Result: DLLRegisterServer entry point not found, the file cannot be registered. 3. Aspnet_wp.exe never ever appears in Windows Task Manager running processes. 4. If I grant any NTFSuser permissions on the Metabase.bin file they will disappear if I use any as

I have a virtual web server folder called training. I have set directory browsing so that I can see the files therefore when i put this into the web browser: Http://localhost/training/ I can see a list of files. I have created a simple aspx page but cutting and pasting the code http://forums.asp.net/t/711521.aspx?HELP+with+XP+Pro+SP2+IIS+5+1+HTTP+500+Internal+Server+Error from a tutorial on this site. When I run http://localhost/training/firstpage.asxp i get a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. Now I can run http://localhost/training/testpage.htm so I know IIS can handle html requests. Is there anyone who can help me please. Thanks in advance. In summary: Just installed IIS 5.1 and when I attempt to open http://localhost/localstart.asp get HTTP 500 - Internal server error. System Event Log shows DCOM logon 500 error failure unknown username or bad password. Unable to logon IWAM_SERVERNAME in order to run the server. As the KB artical explains, I run the SYNCIWAM.VBS script and everything is OK. The problem is that when I reboot the machine the problem comes back until is run the script again! IE sometimes gives the annoying "Internal Server Error" without displaying the ASP errors. Netscape will show the ASP errors.
