(Error 502) on Single Server Configuration Started by Peter Carabillo , 01 June 2006 - 02:37 PM Login to Reply 12 replies to this topic Peter Carabillo Members #1 Peter Carabillo 1 posts Posted 01 June 2006 - 02:37 PM I have configured a Windows 2003 Standard Server with CAE 1.0 in single server (access) mode. After installed 502 proxy error openshift the SSL certificate, remote clients receive a "Bad Gateway" Error 502 - The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. Per KB articlehttp://support.citrix.com/article/CTX108577&searchID=20719155 this indicates something in CAE thinks its deployed in a gateway configuration, not a single server configuration. However when I go back to Quick Start, the Access window confirms that I've set it in single server mode.Any help would be greatly appreciated.P.C. 1334-77342-485243 Back to top Kenneth Bell Citrix Employees #2 Kenneth Bell 486 posts Posted 08 June 2006 - 06:49 AM Hi Peter,This could mean that the IIS website isn't starting. If you open the IIS management tool, can you check that both websites are 'started'.Regards,Ken 1334-77342-487702 Back to top Dylan Webb Members #3 Dylan Webb 1 posts Posted 12 July 2006 - 01:33 PM I had the same issues with Svr 2k3 std and CAE 1.5. Fundamentals June 29, 2012 15 Comments I had to renew a 2048 bit Godaddy SSL certificate on a Citrix Access Essentials server today. This article on the Citrix knowledgebase explains how to install the certificate in Quick Start, but is a bit light on detail for

the IIS part so I thought I would document it here. Firstly you need
502 Proxy Error Web Service
to generate a certificate request or renewal request on the Citrix Access Essentials or Xenapp Fundamentals external website in IIS manager. Right click 502 proxy error apache reverse proxy the website and choose ‘properties', then click on the ‘Directory Security' tab. In the ‘Secure Communications' section click on the ‘Server Certificate' button, and the server certificate wizard will start. Click Next, and the following http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/77342-bad-gateway-error-502-on-single-server-configuration/ screen will appear: Creating the renewal or certificate request In this case I was renewing the existing 2048 bit certificate, so selected ‘renew the current certificate' and clicked next. On the next screen choose ‘prepare the request now but send it later: Preparing the request Finish the wizard, and save the request for processing with your SSL provider. In this case the provider is Godaddy, but the process will be similar for other providers. Log https://oasysadmin.com/tag/the-proxy-server-received-an-invalid-response-from-the-upstream-server/ into Godaddy, select the certificate you want to renew (assuming you have already purchased the renewal credit), and choose ‘Request Certificate' . Requesting a new certificate using Godaddy On the next screen select ‘Third Party or Dedicated Server, and then paste the contents of the certificate request that you generated in IIS into the CSR field as shown: Processing the CSR with Godaddy Submit the request and then wait for Godaddy to process it, completing any necessary domain control, or other validation processes that may be required. Once the certificate processing is complete, download your new certificate from Godaddy. If this is the first time you have installed a Godaddy certificate on the server you will also need to install intermediate certificates that come in the zip file on your server. Further documentation on this can be found on the Godaddy website here. Next install the new certificate using IIS manager. Again, right click the Citrix external website and choose ‘Properties', then click on the ‘Directory Security' tab. In the ‘Secure Communications' section click on the ‘Server Certificate'. In the wizard choose ‘process the pending request and install the certificate'. Processing the pending certificate request in IIS Browse to the new certificate .crt file you downloaded from Godaddy and click next. You may need to

This server received an invalid response from an upstream server it accessed to fulfil the request. This usually does not mean that the upstream server is down (no response to the gateway/proxy), but rather that the upstream server and the gateway/proxy do not agree on the protocol for exchanging data. Given that Internet protocols are quite clear, it often means that one or both machines have been incorrectly or incompletely programmed. Fixing 502 errors - general This problem is due to poor IP communication between back-end computers, possibly including the Web server at the site you are trying to visit. Before analysing this problem, you should clear your browser cache completely. If you are surfing the Web and see this problem for all Web sites you try to visit, then either 1) your ISP has a major equipment failure/overload or 2) there is something wrong with your internal Internet connection e.g. your firewall is not functioning correctly. In the first case, only your ISP can help you. In the second case, you need to fix whatever it is that is preventing you reaching the Internet. If you get this problem for only some of the Web sites you try to visit then it is likely to be a problem at those sites i.e. one of their pieces of equipment is failing/overloaded. Contact the people at those sites. Fixing 502 errors - CheckUpDown Our service monitors your site for HTTP errors like 502. Use of proxies and caching is increasing on the Web. Our CheckUpDown robot will always try to "drill through" to the real computer that actually hosts the Web site, but we do not have complete control over where our HTTP request actually ends up. If only one link in the chain of computers dealing with our HTTP request is broken, then an error such as 502 can easily occur. Please contact us (email preferred) whenever you encounter 502 errors - there is nothing you can do to sort them out. We then have to liaise with your ISP and the vendor of the Web server software so that they can review the flow of IP data traffic between various computers under their control. 502 errors in the HTTP cycle Any client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) goes through the following cycle when it communicates with the Web server: Obtain an IP address from the IP name of the site (the site URL without the leading 'http://'). This lookup (conversion of IP name to IP address) is provided by domain name servers (DNSs). Open an IP socket connection to that IP address. Write an HTTP data stream through that socket. Receive an HTTP data
