Re: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process emmar Nov 23, 2005 4:32 AM (in response to TomVDB) We had this issue, which for us was caused by the fact that VC was trying to manage it whilst we were also doing stuff in the MUI. Rebooting the box fixed it for us.E Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process TomVDB Nov 23, 2005 5:56 AM (in response to emmar) A reboot is not a solution we would like to see.. At this moment it's not a big problem because it's a non production environment.. but when it becomes production we have to switch of 20 servers to reboot esx.. (we don't have vmotion at this time..) Unable to connect VMware Host from VMware Server Console. Unable to turn On VMs hosted on VMware Server. I have a VMware server runing in my office. since it was rebooted last time i was unable to connect to VMware on "VMware Server Console" All the VMs were OFF and there wasn't any way for turning those ON. The error i found each time i tried to connect to VMware was, "511 Error connecting to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\vmserverdWin32.exe https://communities.vmware.com/thread/26741?tstart=0 process." I started searching for its solution and found that it could be because of a stopped service named "Net Logon". I went to Start > Run Typed services.msc Scrolled down to "Net Logon" Yup! It was not running. I started it and tried to open VMware Server Console, but still getting same error 🙁 I thought i http://www.asknetinfo.com/solution-for-vmware-server-console-511-error.html may have to reboot the machine but it could take much time. So, i went to services and restarted all the VMware Services, VMware Authorization Service VMware DHCP Service VMware NAT Service VMware Registration Service Stopped one by one and started again from top to bottom. This resolved the VMware 511 Error and i was able to connect to VMware Server Console and successfuly Turned ON all the VMs hosted on the same server. 🙂 You may face same error when you install VMware Server on WinXP or on any other OS which does not have running "Net Logon" service. Or it is also possible that you will not find any service with the name "Net Logon" In this case you will need to install "Client for Microsoft Networks". For this goto "Control Panel" > "Network Connections" Right Click "Local Area Connection" Click on Properties and Install "Client for Microsoft Networks" under:VMware, Windows Related Post Nothing found related with this post topic No Comment Received Leave A Reply Username (*require) Email A

The vmware-serverd process is eating up my CPU's (4 of them on an IBM eServer xSeries 460 w/8Gb RAM) up to 80%, where the httpd is a good second with the remaining 20% up to 60% as well. When I Google for the error, all I find are articles stating that killing the vmware-serverd process (which respawns automatically) and/or restarting the httpd.vmware process should suffice, alas, it doesn't make any difference..The VMware version is 2.5.2 and has been running perfectly for quite a while now. No changes were made to the system for at least the past 2 months. No VM's are running when this occurs; first I tried rebooting the ESX server but the problem occurs when trying to log on through the MUI. I already raised a call with VMware but due to the fact their timezone and ours are quite different (we're in Holland,Europe and VMware support is somewhere in the USA) it may be more difficult to find a solution anytime soon.. ofcourse we're running some pretty important production servers on it which are needed right away ;) RE: 'Urgent' : 511

a day trying to get VMware Server to successfully install on my Windows XP Pro SP3 laptop. Every time I tried to open the console and connect to local host, I would get the error"511 Error connecting to "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\vmserverdWin32.exe" process"I also would see errors in the Event Log (Application and Security) as well. The Application log would complain about vmauthd, and "Failed to impersonate vmware user". Searching through Google, I'd see some issues that didn't exactly pertain to mine. One post said "if this doesn't work, you're going to have to reinstall Windows." I noticed some posts mentioned having to start the Net Logon service, and noticed I didn't have that in my Services. Searching about "Net Logon" missing, it says that the Client for Microsoft Networks needs to be installed with your network interface. I look at my network interface properties, and there was no Client for Microsoft Networks! After adding the client to my network interface, my VMware console now starts up. I'm not sure if it's worth replying my solution to the VMware Community thread, since the last update was March 2007. However, I'll post this to the blog and hopefully Google will index it for the next poor admin that is banging his head over this. Thanks man, your the boss! after spending quite a few hours uninstalling, installing, giving admin rights to vmware services, restarting... your solution worked!Add "Client for Microsoft Networks" if you don't have. Thanks!
