5200c Machine Error

not print. I tried the colored cartridges as well as the black. I even tried 2 different brands of compatible cartridges. Still registeres as a "full" cartridge but won't print. I tried to refil the original cartridges and that worked fine but after a few weeks the printer thinks that the cartridges are empty even when they are full. They print fine until the printer stops because it thinks the cartridges are empty. I wanted to try a genuine Brother cartridge and purchased one color. It works fine. Any suggestions on either making the refils last or getting the "compatible" cartridges to print? Respond to this 0 a soft memory reset will clear http://support.brother.com/g/b/faqlist.aspx?c=hk&lang=en&prod=mfc5200c_as&ftype3=1964 ink level countersuse for refills if it keeps coming up empty.Do the following:Press MENU,*,2,8,6,4 (as fast as u can)This gets you into maintanance mode.Press 9,1 (soft reset - DO NOT enter any other numbers or you may stuff everything!!!!)Press 9,9 to exit. by tec on Dec 16, 2003 at 1:01pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Will this work on all Brother Inkjets or only this model? by unknown on Dec 17, 2003 at 9:21pm http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/14859 Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I tried the soft-reset and it did reset, but again it came up and said "near-empty black" just like it had said before. It seems that the printer has some way of either detecting or remembering the ink levels. by Kelly on Dec 18, 2003 at 8:45am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 The following is copied from another thread but may help - it for a Bro MFC 5100:"An Island Ink Jet Refill franshise owner has now told me that their in-house site suggests putting black electrical tape over the cartridges' sensor windows. This prevents the sensor light from shining into the cartridge and giving a false "out of (color)" message, when the cartridge actually has been refilled and is visibly full. The window is on the top upper front, slanted, part of the cartridge. This works, but it also disables the "out of ink" message when the ink is really gone. This may lead to using an empty cartridge, and possible damage to the printhead. Then again, poor print quality usually shows, doesn't it, giving a warning of low ink?" by Anonymous on Dec 21, 2003 at 1:23pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 One thing that we neglected to address is the "compatable cartridge" itself. Maybe it is NOT compatable. Transfer the ink to an origi
