You're getting an Error 530 or Outlook error 0x800CCC78. The problem is the on-the-road ISP may be blocking port 25, and/or your ISP might not accept mail being relayed from other network domains. SBC Yahoo allows you to 530 authentication change your SMTP port from 25 to 587. Most ISPs let port 587 flow through. Internet access works, receiving email works, you just can no longer send. What the heck?! Steps 1 Go to Outlook, Tools, Accounts, Server, Advanced, and change the SMTP port from 25 to 587. Hit Apply, OK, then exit/restart Outlook. 2 Start Outlook, create a test email and send it. Should 530 authentication required work fine. 3 The solution might vary with other ISPs. Your home ISP must support an alternate port for SMTP TCP traffic, and the current ISP providing you access must not block that alternative port. 4 Recognize this is all the fault of spammers and the ISPs trying to slow them down. This is why they block port 25 for non-customers. Tips If this doesn't work, just change the port back to port 25 and wait until you get home to catch up on email. Remember to change the port back once you're back at home! Alternatively, as with SBC Yahoo mail, you can always use the Webmail interface. This, like all other web pages, uses port 80, which ISPs do not block. Do they not show in your sent folder? Moreover, are you getting the message "Cannot send the message. 530 Authentication Required." ? Or does the error you're getting look something like this? The error code may be 530 instead of 503. Whatever the case, this is a common error in Microsoft Outlook. Select the email account you are trying to send mail from and click Next. To allow outgoing authentication in Outlook 2003, check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box. Leave the Use same settings as my incoming mail server box dotted. In Outlook 2007, click Tools at the top bar, and select Account Settings. In the Account Settings window, on the E-mail tab, select the appropriate email account and click Change. Click More Settings. This will put you on the General tab of the Internet E-mail Settings. Click the Outgoing Server tab. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box. Click OK. In Outlook 2010, click File -> Account Settings. Click Account Settings again and select the E-mail tab. Select the email account with sending errors, and click Change. In the Account window, select More Settings.
