Office 2010 - IT Pro General Discussions Question 0 Sign in to vote Access errore riservato 3087 DB Reserved Error (-3087) and the messages is fun. Thanks & Regards, Santhosh Wednesday, March 07, 2012 6:46 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Based on my research, this error could occur when any of the following is true: a.There are reserved words used.b.You’ve grouped complex queries To solve the error, try the following: For situation a. If a reserved word is already in use, you can avoid this error message by surrounding each occurrence of the word with brackets ([ ]). However, the best solution is to change the name to a nonreserved word. For situation b. Ungroup these complex queries, create append query on a temporary table instead to workaround this issue. For your reference: Access 2007 reserved words and symbols http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/access-2007-reserved-words-and-symbols-HA010030643.aspx Note: It is not practical to provide a list of all reserved words, such as built-in function names or user-defined names. If you set a reference to a type library, an object library, or an ActiveX control, that library's reserved words are also reserved words in your database. totals by type, and groups totals by users into a table that acts as a report data source. (Fair warning if you Googled the unreserved error to get here, I went with a workaround.) The data that comes in from SharePoint looks like this: They’ve got it set up where one Resident will enter a day’s activities, up to five per day, from a https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/01acbbd6-d61b-4f27-adf3-b4669d87b796/reserved-error-3087?forum=officeitproprevious list of 25 different activities. (Not a lookup, free text) The final report needs to sum activity quantities by date, by activity, and by resident. Not given a ton of time to figure this one out, I came up with the trusty IIF function to evaluate each row and sort totals into https://baker28.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/fixit-ms-access-and-the-dreaded-reserved-error-3087/ activity piles. I used Sum(Iif([Activity1]=”Activity Name Here”,[Quantity 1],0)) for each activity type to get the totals, wrote them to a new table, and exported table totals to an Excel workbook (the requested output). So there’s a series of append queries that gather, calculate, and publish totals, and each was failing with the 3087 error. Google search: Microsoft says Access is barfing due to “too many fields in the GROUP BY clause.” Hmm. Since when is one field too many? Here’s the SQL statement from query #1 as a sample: INSERT INTO tbl_ActivityTotals ( Activity1Total, Activity2Total, Activity3Total, Activity4Total, Activity5Total, TotalsIndex, Activity, Resident ) SELECT Sum(IIf([Activity 1]="BP",[Quantity 1],0)) AS Activity1Total, Sum(IIf([Activity 2]="BP",[Quantity 2],0)) AS Activity2Total, Sum(IIf([Activity 3]="BP",[Quantity 3],0)) AS Activity3Total, Sum(IIf([Activity 4]="BP",[Quantity 4],0)) AS Activity4Total, Sum(IIf([Activity 5]="BP",[Quantity 5],0)) AS Activity5Total, "BP" & [Residents]![Modified by] & Date() AS TotalsIndex, 4 AS Activity, Residents.[Modified by] FROM Residents INNER JOIN [Resident Activity Log] ON Residents.[Modified by] = [Resident Activity Log
