We have an SBS 2011 server running the default Folder Redirection group policy. On one computer (Windows 7 Pro x64) I am getting an "Access Denied" error within Sync Center anytime we try to do a synchronization for Offline Files for only 6 files. The peculiar thing with this is that 2 of the files in question are 0 KB in size and the other four files reside in the https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/464706-redirected-folders-offline-files-access-denied-bad-headache Recycle Bin. With the computer connected to the network and Online I can see the two 0 KB files listed but anytime you try and access them (both PDFs) an error message shows as Access Denied. I switched the computer to offline mode and sure enough the 2 files are not available offline. The four files in the recycle bin I cannot see when looking for them through explorer. However, if I go to Sync Center > Manage Offline Files > View Your Offline Files and navigate to the location I can see them listed. Removing them from there does nothing, as soon as the computer is rebooted they show back up. To note, the Recycle Bin folder is located under the "My Music" folder. Things that I have done so far that have not resolved this issue include: -Cleared the CSC using the "FormatDatabase" registry key and rebooting. -Checked to make sure that the files were not encrypted (no encryption). -Checked the permissions on the server for the folders. I would expect that if it were a permission issue that this error would occur for all of the user's redirected files. -Replaced an expired EFS Data Recovery Agent certificate as per the instructions listed here: http://superuser.com/questions/429118/offline-files-access-denied -Installed Windows Hotfix KB 2561708 as per article: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/31471-windows-7-sync-center-will-not-completely-sync-off... --Then tried 2nd step in
Encrypt Offline Files - Access Denied Posted on May 18, 2011 by James Rudd On a Windows 7 laptop I was trying to set up Offline Files with encryption http://jrudd.org/2011/05/encrypt-offline-files-access-denied/ enabled. After syncing the files and going into Manage Offline Files -> http://vstepic.blogspot.com/2014/03/access-denied-when-syncronizing-offline.html Encryption -> Encrypt everything seemed to go OK, but it would then keep reporting Access Denied when it tried to sync any new files. After some searching I found this post which mentioned an expired Recovery Key in Group Policy. After checking the Group Policy object on the server I access denied discovered there was an old Recovery Key stored in the EFS policy from when it was first set up. After regenerating the key and importing into policy, a gpupdate /force on laptop and reboot fixed the issue. he was experiencing Access Denied message while synchronizing his folder redirected offline files on his Windows 7 laptop machinewith enabled option for encryptingthe offline files cache. Whilehe was able tosuccessfully synchronize folder redirected offline files on his Windows 8.1 desktop workstation with disabled option for encrypting the offline files cache. The reason for this strange behavior is that Windows for encrypting theoffline files cacheis using native EFS. Also, for testing purposes he triedto encrypt some folder on NTFS file system, but he was unable to do that. So, now it was easy to guess that EFS is not working as should. After checking the Data Recovery Agent in Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Public Key Policies\Encrypting File System in Default Domain GPO, I have noticed that default self signed Administrator certificate for EFS data recovery agent has expired. Deleting this expired certificate and generating new EFS data recovery certificate and importing it into Default Domain GPO, has solved all the problems. This new Data Recovery Agent certificate can be self signed and can be generated with cipher /r:cert_file_name, or if there isMicrosoft CA in organization EFS recovery agent certificate template can be used.
