Solved "Access Denied' issues with new Windows https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073945 Server 2008 R2 domain controller Posted on 2013-08-06 Windows Server 2008 Active Directory 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 7,525 Views 1 Ratings Last Modified: 2013-08-07 I have a single domain with 3 domain controllers (all Server 2003). We added a new Server 2008 server to the domain and promoted it to a Domain Controller and everything seemed to go well https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28205710/Access-Denied'-issues-with-new-Windows-Server-2008-R2-domain-controller.html with no errors. We transferred all FSMO roles to the new server. After a couple of days -- we noticed that replication wasn't happening completely between the original servers and the new one. Also, there is nothing in the SYSVOL folder on this server. -DNS is setup and running on the 2008 server but fails when testing recursive queries. -When we try to do a 'replicate now' from AD Sites and Services - we get 'Access Denied' error -DCDIAG commands show "
bad! 7 August 2012 by Adam Rush Scenario It's a pleasant day and all is well with the world. Colleagues are skipping around the office with smiles on faces…until…duh duh daaa! http://www.virtuallyimpossible.co.uk/when-good-domain-controllers-go-bad/ One by one, services start failing: Printers go offline: First, for Win7 users http://andywolf.com/dcdiag-and-repadmin-access-denied-errors-on-2008-r2-dc/ Then for all clients Can still print from server though File shares go offline Active Directory replication fails DNS console will not open Basically, your main Domain Controller (DC) has just taken a dump…and so have you! These are the steps I took to troubleshoot the issues and get everything access denied back online. Solution Gather Information Run the following commands to gather useful information: ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt (from each DC/DNS Server) dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s: > c:\dcdiag.txt dcdiag /test:dns /s: /DnsBasic > c:\dcdiag-dnsbasic.txt repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite > c:\showrepl.txt (dc* is a placeholder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same - if more error 5 access then one DC exists) repadmin /replsum > c:\replsum.txt Pour through the txt files and note down the errors. Some of mine included: repadmin /showrepl Last error: 1256 (0x4e8): The remote system is not available. Last error: 5 (0x5): Access is denied. WARNING: KCC could not add this REPLICA LINK due to error. result 1722 (0x6ba): The RPC server is unavailable. repadmin /replsum (1722) The RPC server is unavailable. (5) Access is denied. dcdiag /test:dns /s: /DnsBasic The host
2008 R2. I also have a domain in the DMZ. This is a single forest with 2 DC's. It is small, just to support AD Authentication, DNS, DFS-R, etc. The DC's were running 2008. I wanted to start my R2 project here. I figured I could get a good feel for the upgrade process and what it was going to be like for the internal domains. I built 2 new 2008 R2 servers and made them DC's. After they were DC's, I ran the usual commands to check the health of the domain and to make sure that replication was functioning properly. I ended up seeing a lot of access denied errors. Here is the output from dcdiag /v Starting test: NetLogons * Network Logons Privileges Check Verified share \\DC03\netlogon Verified share \\DC03\sysvol [DC03] User credentials does not have permission to perform this operation. As you can see…. I am getting some access denied errors.
