had working with DFS. The issue: At several client locations we run file server redundancy by offering (2) DFSR servers. dfs the namespace cannot be queried access is denied A shared domain namespace with replicated folders to ensure they stay dfs namespace access denied online if a server is offline for planned or unplanned good times. Within group-policy, we map folder unable to access dfs share redirection to a namespace path: "documents" -> "\\domain.com\users\username\documents" "desktop" -> "\\domain.com\users\username\desktop" ...... By referencing the namespace, it will redirect when server A or B is offline. This should NOT https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/261015 be used in WAN deployments, LAN is fast and therefore replication is fast. Initially the DFS issue was identified when drives mapped to the namespace were missing. Within the client event logs, we saw "access denied" errors associated with these drive-letters. What we checked and verified: Problematic client stations could not connect to "\\domain.com\dfsroot" (access denied) Problematic client http://wiki.sirkit.ca/2012/11/windows-domain-dfs-namespace-access-is-denied-using-domain-fqdn-access-allowed-using-server-unc-paths-directly/ stations could not connect to "\\domain\dfsroot" (access denied) Problematic client stations could connect to "\\serverA\dfsroot" Problematic client stations could connect to "\\serverB\dfsroot" Permissions on the shares for the DFS Root folder were correctly set to "everyone" with read/write Each of these systems was removed and rejoined to the domain [no success] The local profiles were completely removed from the local systems (file system and registry) and logged back in [no success] Security suites were removed [no success] Each user was tested on working machines and had no issues obtaining the right drives The culprit: When we disabled the 'offline files' component and rebooted -> "\\domain.com\dfsroot" was immediately accessible We ultimately came to this conclusion: The offline file cache was corrupt. When offline files are disabled, the system accesses the namespace location directly without issue. This confirms a reference to the namespace is clearly saved within offline file cache. If the cache is corrupt you end up with "Access is Denied". Another quick way to determine if the issue is corrupt cache i

Join https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/272367-access-denied-when-adding-a-dfs-namespace-server Now We have a Namespace which has five member servers across four sites. I'm trying add a sixth member (which will be second member in one of the sites - as part of the process of ensuring two members at each site for resiliency). The wizard runs through five tasks after I've hit OK but fails at the last (see access denied screenshot attached). When I click on the 'Errors' tab it states "\\domain\namespace: The namespace server \\servername\namespace cannot be added. Access is denied" This error occurs whether I use my Admin level account (which is a member of Domain Admins) as well as the domain\Administrator account. The server is a domain controller (as are two others) running 2008 R2 (as access is denied is one other) but is also the FSMO role holder (which as far as I've been able to find out, doesn't matter). There are no DFS events recorded in the Event Logs when this error occurs. Any ideas on how to resolve this, folks? 2 Cayenne OP Jeff2262 Nov 5, 2012 at 3:18 UTC No. But then it doesn't mention the error we're getting (no mention of "Access Denied" other than from a client) and the resolution seems to be suggesting a manual removal of the namespace (presumably prior to recreating it), which seems a bit extreme! 0 Cayenne OP Jeff2262 Nov 26, 2012 at 11:21 UTC I've been digging a little further. I created a new Namespace to see if I could add the serv
