I get the message: Warning: Access denied for user: 'duser@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /drupal/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 7 Access denied for user: 'duser@localhost' (Using password: YES) I've used the mysql troubleshooting and I can connect to the database with the user/password specified in conf.php. This suggests the issue is https://www.drupal.org/node/324595 with drupal. I'm using: mysql 3.23.42 php 4.1.2 apache 2.0.32 I've searched on google for this message and only found several other dead drupal sites with the same error so others seem to have the same problem. I've had no luck searching the drupal forums and documentation. Any suggestions on what else to try? I'm pretty sure the error is not with Drupal, but feel free to prove me wrong ... Normally, in Drupal database connection can be configured from settings.php file which is located at: \sites\default. Here is the code that set access: $databases = array ( 'default' => array ( 'default' => array ( 'database' => 'testweb', 'username' => 'testweb', 'password' => 'root', 'host' => 'localhost', 'port' => '', 'driver' => 'mysql', 'prefix' => '', ), ), ); MySQL web user and database names are equal that is testweb. Here is the access denied for error I get. PDOException: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user 'testweb'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of C:\wamp\www\testweb\includes\lock.inc). Another thing I want to know that is whether Drupal store database connection strings in the database. I have seen this problem in stackoverflow but it didn't continue to a right solution. php drupal share|improve this question edited Jan 27 '14 at 2:45 Rubens Mariuzzo 13.1k1772117 asked Apr 13 '13 at 10:42 newday 1,41752348 closed as too localized by Dagon, Clive, cryptic ツ, Shikiryu, Soner Gönül Apr 14 '13 at 8:26 This question is unlikely to help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet. Some special characters will make the site unavailable with the error "Access denied for user 'user'@'localhost' (using password: YES)" even if the password is correct in Drupal 6. This issue may also be caused by some other reasons too, however the following problem is a major one causing the issue. All the problems started after changing the MySQL user password associated with the mysql database. After that the drupal 6 site is unavailable showing the error "Access denied for user 'user'@'localhost' (using password: YES)" and it is clear that the password provided is correct. After changing the password, i have explicitly changed the password in the settings.php file.By analysing it is found that some special characters in the password may be the culprit. By replacing the special charecters with some others found the actual culprit. It is the "+" sign in the password that is making the problem. The actual problem is with the way drupal 6 parses the db url which is in the format "mysql://username:password@localhost/databasename". Drupal 6 uses the default php function parse_url(). The problem with parse url is that any of the special characters :, /, @, +, (, ), ?, =, and & will result in an unexpected behaviour of the function, which is causing the error even if the password was correct. Inorder to avoid the problem we can use URI HEX encodings corresponding to each of these special characters. : = %3a / = %2f @ = %40 + = %2b ( = %28 ) = %29 ? = %3f = = %3d & = %26 However the problem is not there in Drupal 7, since in Drupal 7 we can not use the db URL syntax in settings.php file, in fact we have to g
