in SharePoint 2010 Categories: Access Denied, SharePoint 2010 by jaross Confirming User Permissions When a user is getting access denied there http://blog.jasonross.org/2013/01/17/troubleshooting-access-denied-messages-in-sharepoint-2010/ is a tool in SharePoint 2010 to check permissions for a given user. When you check the permissions for a user, SharePoint will output what permissions the user has. http://underthehood.ironworks.com/2011/05/sharepoint-2010-access-denied-for-users-that-have-full-control-on-the-site.html You will need to remember that if a site or list within a site collection that does not inherit permissions, you will need to do a check permission for each access denied site or list that does not inherit permissions. How to confirm user permissions at the site level: Site Actions Site Settings Site Permissions Check Permissions Enter the name of the account that is having permission issues Click “Check Now” The permission of the user will be displayed If the permission is granted through a group be sure to check the sharepoint 2010 access permission level of the group How to confirm user permissions at the list or library level: Browse to the list or library Under “List Tools” click on List Click on List or Library Settings Click “Permissions for the list” Check Permissions Enter the name of the account that is having permission issues Click “Check Now” The permission of the user will be displayed If the permission is granted through a group be sure to check the permission level of the group If you are still using the version 3 master page in SharePoint 2010 you will not have an option to do a check permission through the user interface. To get around this by using the following URL: https://contoso/_layouts/chkperm.aspx?obj=https%3A%2F%2Fcontgoso%2CWEB&IsDlg=1 Access Denied URL’s Sometimes the access denied URL’s will give good information on what the user is getting access denied to. While it may appear that the user is getting access denied to the site, list, or library it may be another resource that the user is getting access denied to. Take the following URL for example: https://contoso.com/s
on the site Scenario: Users get "Access Denied" over the whole site, despite having Full Control permission Site Collection Administrators have no problem logging in Explanation: A SharePoint 2010 site that uses claims-based authentication has been extended to Intranet zone that uses AD as well as FBA. The site has number of users in the default owners and members groups. All the site users always get access denied over the whole site even though they clearly have access to the site through the site groups. Site Collection Administrators are allowed to access the site and have no problems logging in. Resolution: Make sure that all the Master page, CSS files, any other files that are required are published. If there are files that are required in the master pages and are not published, users will get access denied even if they have full control on the site. If you are ok with giving all authenticated users atleast road-only access to all files inorder to prevent the access denied problem, then you can try the below. Add a new "User Policy" for the web application that allows "All Authenticated Users" the permissions "Full Read" on the desired zone. Per a request from Nosika, I have updated the post with some screenshots that might be helpful. Go to Central Administration Click on Application Management Click on Manage Web Applications Choose the desired web application: Click on "User Policy" Click on "Add Users" to add a new User Policy: Select the zone that you want to apply the new policy to. If you are not sure what to choose, leave the defaut value selected (All Zones) and cick next Choose the permissions that you would like to give to the user(s) in this new user policy. If you do not want to give the user(s) full permission, choose "Full Read". This permission ensur
