There is no padlock on the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/error-message-when-adding-favorites-folder-access/b2d40b7d-f343-4529-bed5-cb24cb874c9b favorites folder in explorer, properties are all good, and I have administrators rights. I don't know how to save favorites manually and I don't want to have to resort to doing that. I would just like to be able to click on favorites, add to favorites andsave. I opened process monitor, but https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/2c806638-bec2-49ff-8237-b840a39d2336/access-denied-error-when-trying-to-add-to-favorites-in-ie111?forum=w7itproui since I am a technology dinosaur and I don't get tech language, it didn't help me. Does anyone out there have an idea why windows 7 or IE11 won't let me save my favorites? If so, I would really appreciate some help in fixing this very annoying and frustrating problem. I do have a disclaimer, as I said, I am a technology dinosaur so any instructions or directions need to be in the simplest terms so I know what to do. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help. dswapp Saturday, June 13, 2015 9:37 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I shall suggest you to go through: Take Ownership Shortcut Open Command Prompt as Administrator ( Right click on cmd icon and select run as Administrator). When I try to change file permissions on a directory, I get an error: Error Applying Security Access is denied. I am an administrator on the machine, and I made sure nothing has the file(s) locked (with Process Explorer). I even booted another user who had a logged-in Remote Desktop session. Some of the files it complains about are in a .hg folder, as there is a Mercurial repository in the directory I'm working on. I noticed that something in the directory is set to read-only so I unchecked that and applied. It looked like it worked, but looking again it's back to read-only and setting permissions still fails. There is a site in IIS using a subdirectory of this directory. Update: I just found this article about this sort of problem. The note at the bottom mentions that if it's not working, check out LockHunter. It told me that the directory was locked by IIS, so I ran iisreset -stop and tried setting permissions again. Same error. :( windows-server-2008 permissions share|improve this question edited Oct 19 '10 at 23:58 asked Oct 19 '10 at 23:48 adambox 3924613 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 13 down vote accepted This can happen if you really don't have access to that directory.
