Error 5 Getting Sessionnames
even though I have no problem connecting with Remote Desktop Connection. My computer is Win7, the targets are WinXP or Server 2003. Perhaps I am specifying the SERVER name incorrectly: qwinsta /SERVER:XXYYZZ02 I have tried qwinsta /SERVER:\\XXYYZZ02 qwinsta /SERVER:domain\XXYYZZ02 qwinsta /SERVER:domain/XXYYZZ02 qwinsta /SERVER:1.2.3.4 Am I doing something wrong? TIA... (The problem I'm trying to solve is several support personnel needing to connect to the same servers and disconnecting each other mid-session.) remote-access remote-desktop share|improve this

"This means the remote RPC component failed to execute the requested operation. It is because it is not allowed to operate on terminal service (Remote Desktop) through RPC by default. To modify this setting to enable Remote Desktop API through RPC, you need to find the following registry key: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server Then add a DWORD value named “AllowRemoteRPC” and change its value to 1." In my case it was set to "0". I changed it to 1 and all was good. share|improve this answer answered Nov 4 '14 at 16:38 M_tek 6112 That worked for me. Thanks. Access denied. This morning I tried server access denied to open a PDF from GroupWise, our email program. Immediately, I got an error message in Adobe Acrobat Reader X, "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." Since we recently upgraded to Adobe Reader 10.0 (X), I figured it was a new security setting in the application. As it turns out, this new version of Acrobat is using the "principle of least privilege". I darn near bored myself to death reading a three-part series on Adobe's new Protected Mode. To make things simple for you, here are two ways for you fix the problem: A. Fix One PC Launch Adobe Acrobat Reader X Go to: Edit > Preferences... Click on "General" in the left pane. Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup" You will prompted with a dialog box to remind you to close the application for the change to go into effect. Click Yes. Click OK to save your change. Exit Adobe Reader B. Fix Several PCs in Your Organization Following the above steps aren't practical if you have Adobe Acrobat installed on 1,000+ computers in 30 regional offices! Push this registry setting using your standard software deployment software. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Privileged] "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000 Microsoft Outlook and other email clients I hear this will also fix the "There was an error opening this document. Acc
denied". What I have to do to get the permission to send a message to the host? October 7th, 2009 5:06pm Hi Sven, Could you please take following steps to troubleshoot the issue?1. Open the Registry Editor.2. In the left pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server 3. In the right pane, ensure value of AllowRemoteRPC key is 1. If not, please change it to 1. 4. Quit Registry Editor and Reboot the computer. 5. Run MSG command in a elevated CMD window. Hope it helps. Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now October 8th, 2009 12:37pm I completed this registry fix and for the first time ever, I was successfully sending messages to all the computers in my network! I was so happy. then, a few hours later, and ever since, when i try to send a message it says "USERNAME does not exist or is disconnected" where USERNAME is the name of the user i'm trying to send a message to. this is so frustrating because it was working FINE after the registry fix, and nothing changed except the time of day.. and now it wont work. i checked and the AllowRemoteRPC value is still "1". i can type NET VIEW and all the other computers in the network show up. i can still share files through homegroup and print remotely. this is stupid. i hate windows 7. NOW what??? October 29th, 2009 12:22pm Hi Sven and Ronnie,Please let me first describe about my expierences with msg.exe between different computers: After setting the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server to 1 (on all involved computers) msg.exe works between two Windows7 Enterprise hosts and between a Terminalserver (Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2003) and a Windows7 host as administrator@domain and as one and the same user@domain! That means, that user administrator@domain can send messages to any user@domain (on any host) with the command:msg username /server:hostname messageand user halodrio@domain can send messages with the same command to all users hallodrio@domain on any host (regardless the group membership of halodrio). If any other user@domain tries to send halodrio a message the error "hallodrio does not exist or is disconnected" appears. But if the user
