Creating a new VM and saving it to a different location. I am trying to save it to a Windows Server 2012 Storage Server (NAS). I keep getting the error about not having permissions. I have shared the folder on the NAS with all the permissions, went into the 2008 R2 Domain controller and established the delegation between the two machines, read most of the articles on the internet concerning this issue….nothing seems to help….any suggestions? hyper-v hyper-v-server-2012 http://serverfault.com/questions/529694/access-denied-hyper-v-2012 share|improve this question asked Aug 8 '13 at 20:05 bob 62 1 Give us some details. Screenshots of the share and NTFS permissions of the folder in question. Tell us what user is accessing the folder, too. –mfinni Aug 8 '13 at 20:07 If it's a hyperV cluster, which is why I'd imagine you'd use a NAS instead of just direct attatched storage, then you need to make sure you mark the VM you're creating to be created as highly available. There's a checkbox for this in the VM settings/creation process and without that being selected, HyperV gets pouty about putting the VM onto shared storage. –Rob Moir Aug 8 '13 at 20:36 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote I had a similar issue when creating VMs from the fail-over cluster manager. Also came up when trying to export VMs. Tried the solution here and worked for me. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008849 (Written for 2008 but worked for 2012 as well) share|improve this answer answered Aug 8 '13 at 20:26 R.K 1487 Problem solved. Thank you very much! The solution above was the key. The KB2008849 explained that you must use computer objects as well as user permissions. –bob Aug 12 '13 at 16:47 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign u
Resolved: Hyper-V General access denied error when trying to load a Virtual Hard Drive Categories: Hyper V https://kx.cloudingenium.com/microsoft/servers/hyper-v/resolved-hyper-v-general-access-denied-error-trying-load-virtual-hard-drive/ by Juan Carlos Resolved: Hyper-V General access denied error when trying to load a Virtual Hard Drive Recently I was working with my VMs and moving their storage files from one location to another. I don't recall exactly what I did that caused this issue but I was unable access denied to start my VM. I would get every time the following error message: Hyper-V Manager An error occurred while attempting to start the selected virtual machine(s). ‘VMName' failed to start. Error: ‘General access denied error' (0x80070005). (Virtual machine ID ‘SomeID') The Problem Not sure what originates this issue, but as the error message indicates Hyper-V does not have enough permissions (/sufficient priviledge) to open the attached hard drive. If I open a Virtual Machine Disk of a VM that works I can see there is an account on the Security settings tab that looks like virtual machine ID. When I go into the VHDX file for the one that is not working I can see it only has the standard accounts that are inherited by the parent folder. Clearly at some point the
