Local Services in Windows 8.1/10 RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and improve system performance A few months ago, I got the update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 on my access denied starting service windows 7 laptop. Since then every thing went fine and I was truly enjoying the Windows service failed to start due to the following error: access is denied. 8.1 with the "Windows Re-imagined" concept. But yesterday when I went to check the Security Center, I came to know that windows 10 services access denied the Windows Firewall service wasn't running on my system. So I headed to the Local Services window by pressing running services.msc command. Here I found that only a few services were running. I tried to giving permissions to the output directory to the network service account start the leftover services, but I wasn't able to do so. I received the Access Is Denied error. This is the screenshot with one such service: Due to this Access is denied error, I couldn't start most of the local services and this messed up my system with warning and alerts. Initially, to fix it out, I did run the SFC /SCANNOW command to fix out any corrupted files associated with

these services, but it didn't made any differences in the situation. Then eventually, I came around this solution which helped me to resolve the issue significantly: Windows could not start Service. Access Is Denied 1. Press Windows Key + R combination, type Regedt32.exe in the Run dialog box and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor. 2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wcncsvc 3. In the left pane of this location, right click over the wcncsvc key and select Permissions. In the Permissions window, highlight the entry Administrators. 4. Make sure you have the Full control option checked as far as Permissions is concerned. Ensure same with Users entry as well. Click Apply followed by OK when down in both cases. Finally, close the Registry Editor and reboot the system. You should now be able to start local services without any hitch. This should help solve the problem. Problem Steps to Fix Access Denied to gpedit.msc Problem Posted on October 24, 2008 access is denied windows 7 administrator by Rajat Gupta — 64 Comments ↓ My PC was working all fine until I figured out that Group Policy gpedit.msc failed to start service access denied linux was not opening on my system. I wanted to open the Group Policy editor for some work and I was shocked to find that not only the gpedit.msc, even the other commands with msc extensions, were http://www.thewindowsclub.com/access-is-denied-local-services-windows-8-1 not working like services.msc, devmgmt.msc, compmgmt.msc etc. Then I tried opening the editor by double clicking the gpedit.msc inside the system32 folder and I got the same error “Access is Denied”. What was strange was that I was accessing the editor from my Administrator account only. I tried following things: • The first suspect is, of course, Virus, thus I scanned my whole system with the updated Anti Virus but it didn’t http://techsalsa.com/steps-to-fix-access-denied-to-gpeditmsc-problem/ find any. • Then I scanned it with Windows Defender but it also didn’t find any malicious software. • I rebooted the system and entered in the Safe Mode but the commands were not working in that either. Solution: Then I finally decided to run System Restore and restored the system to some safe state I created when the PC was working all fine (good practice to create a checkpoint when the system is fine, isn’t it). I was relieved when this solved my problem. Note: Try to Restore the system to a restore point created long ago. UPDATE 1 since the problems vary for different users, installing Microsoft Management Console 3.0 for Windows XP again (as suggested by one of our viewers) may also work for you. Download MMC UPDATE 2 (Best Solution Working): After all the efforts to find out the solution, we have been able to find the solution to this problem (Thanks to our alert reader Dickens). I am describing the solution given by him and is working all fine (i have tested myself on my PC) Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe). Now traverse to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.msc and delete the registry entry on the right side. After deleting it when you again type gpedit.msc in Run box, it will open an

I can access those functions by using this http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/got-access-denied-to-all-msc-files-such-as-services-msc-etc.3657049/ method though: run mmc and then add the snap-in. So I think it maybe not permission issue. All other domain computers do not have this issue. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks. shimh, Oct 27, 2008 #1 Advertisements Mehran Guest Hi, I have encountered the exact same problem. This happened after I rebooted the server last week, just prior this reboot the server installed the following Microsoft Updates; KB948745, KB49014, KB950762, KB950974, KB951066, KB951072-v2, KB951698, KB951746, KB951748, KB952954 and KB938464. I access is could be wrong, but check to see if you have recently had any of these updates installed, and that may give us some clues.
