Do you have administrative access on your machine? This question might be a better fit on serverfault or superuser. –arunkumar Aug 20 '11 at 6:42 no,, i am using my own machine i have administrative access –ricky Aug 20 '11 at 6:46 i solved that problem by manually copying the file from one location to required location, porbably the problem is related to MSBUILD with readonly file –ricky Aug 20 '11 at 7:44 add a comment| 24 Answers 24 active oldest votes up vote 169 down vote I solved this problem by deleting the contentious files from bin folder and rebuilding the project. share|improve this answer answered Apr 5 '12 at 20:37 DiligentKarma 2,72811421 32 old post, I know, but I had the same issue just now. Make sure that VS is also closed as it will deny access to delete the folder in some cases –Krohn Jun 21 '13 at 11:24 Thanks Eon! +1 for additional point to be considered, which is so easy to miss. –DiligentKarma Jun 24 '13 at 23:15 Worked! Visual Studio 2015 Access To The Path Is Denied

Access to path is denied up vote 5 down vote favorite http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7130136/unable-to-copy-file-access-to-the-path-is-denied 1 I have a solution in Visual Studio that is comprised of 5 projects. The projects build to assemblies (.dll). I have the output path of each project set to \my-web-server\wwwroot\bin, which works fine on one project. In the properties for all of my projects, I have the output path set to the same directory, but when I try building all but one of the projects, I get the error: Unable to copy http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1923543/unable-to-copy-file-to-server-on-build-access-to-path-is-denied file "obj\Release\Index.dll" to "\my-web-server\wwwroot\bin\Index.dll". Access to the path '\my-web-server\wwwroot\bin\Index.dll' is denied. I assume it could be an issue with permissions, because my organization keeps things locked down, but I have no control over granting permissions. Any help in the right direction is much appreciated. visual-studio share|improve this question asked Dec 17 '09 at 18:03 Christopher Garcia 1,04641937 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 17 down vote accepted It must've been something silly. I deleted the .dll manually, then rebuilt. Looks like everything's working normally. Thanks. share|improve this answer answered Dec 17 '09 at 20:12 Christopher Garcia 1,04641937 1 +1 If the next person can run a SysInternals tool BEFORE DELETING THE FILE to see what is causing the Access Denied (ie a lock on the file) and report the root cause that would be much appreciated. –Jeremy Thompson Jul 15 '12 at 23:56 1 Running SysInternals procexp: devenv.exe sitting on the file. Unloading project didn't work but after closing solution I could delete System.Web.WebPages.Deployment.dll from bin. I searched this error and found some bug history that seemed to indicate a http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/VisualStudio/microsoft.public.vsnet.general/2008-01/msg00027.html source control problem. This was a year ago, so I don't know if the bug still exists.Thoughts?THXCurt Zarger======================== Project "D:\Build\dev222\RSP\RSP-BT002\BuildType\TFSBuild.proj" is building "D:\Build\dev222\RSP\RSP-BT002\Sources\RSP\RSP.sln" (Build target(s)): Target ValidateSolutionConfiguration: access to Building solution configuration "Debug|.NET". That didn't work. I then changed the file attributes, removing the "readonly" setting. This was applied at the Build DirectoryPath level. (attrib -R
the dll's are in the bin dir and not used by any other app. The error: Error 1 Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\CDInvoiceDropWatcher.pdb" to "bin\Debug\CDInvoiceDropWatcher.pdb". Access to the path 'bin\Debug\CDInvoiceDropWatcher.pdb' is denied. CDInvoiceDropWatcher occurs all the time. Opening and then closing the vs2005 does not work. The error is only an example of the errors. There are many others that occur with many of the files in the project. As you see this is a .pdb file in the debug dir. When I change the project build to Releace the problem is gone. The Error can be on .exe, .dll and anyother file that is placed in the Debug Dir. If there is a resx file that has referenced an external assembly's the references are put in by VS2005 I do not use the resx files. Thank you, -- Jerry "Steven Cheng[MSFT]" wrote: Hi Jerry, From your description, you're encountering "unable to copy file ... .access denied..." error when try building a windows service project, correct? Yes, there does existing many such issues on the web. So far I've found a certain public bug entry related to this issue. Before you take look at that, I'd like to confirm some further things of your project: ** it the service app used(configured in windows Service manager) when you developing it or any other application may lock the exe ** is the service project referencing any other reference assemblies(in the same solution or external ones) which may get locked? if the problem is the solution/project self specific, you should be able to get rid of it by close and reopen the solution. here is the public bug entry which mentioend a issue when the project has some certain resx file that has referenced an external assembly's type(which get locked). You may have a look to see whether it helps. #MSB3021: Unable to copy file" bug still not fixed in final version http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?Feedbac kID=114694 Sincerely, Steven Cheng Microsoft MSDN Online Support Lead ================================================== Get notification to my posts through email?
