Active Desktop Recovery Windows Xp Script Error
3 (SP3) Question 0 Sign in to vote Dear John, I have restore my active desktop script error regedit a group policy on my network that forces the company wallpaper on to everybody's desktops. Every so often a desktop recovery software user will log in and they get this error message saying: "Active Desktop Recovery." Then there is a button that says "Restore my Active Desktop." When you click on that https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929200 button, you get another error message that says "An error has occured in the script on this page." Then it has a section that says URL: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/%username%/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt. At the bottom of that has a yes and no button and neither button fixes this problem. HERE'S WHAT I'VE TRIED SO FAR FROM READING SUGGESTIONS ONLINE: 1) Delete the Desktop.htt file from https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/3c4358d1-d9d6-4296-8e28-a5e2248ae318/active-desktop-recovery-error?forum=itproxpsp the respective user's profile and restart (DID NOT WORK) 2) Change the screen resolution, then change it back and restart (DID NOT WORK) 3) Go to Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components and change the key value "DeskHtmlVersion REG_DWORD 0x00000110(272) to 0. Close regedit, then restart the computer (DID NOT WORK). 4)Re-create the user's profile and copy the data from the old profile to the new one. This works, but you lose all kinds of settings, as I only copy the FAVORITES, MY DOCUMENTS, & DESKTOP folders from the user's old profile. SO I Guess my question is. Does anybody have a fix for this Active Desktop problem that does not involve creating a new profile.. and 2) If I do have to create a new profile, what file or folders is it exactly that causes this Active Desktop message to be displayed?! click "Restore my Active Desktop" I get the following error: "An error has occured in a script on this page: Line 65 Char 1 file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/My%20Name/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt" I've googled this and the only solution I can come up with is to delete the Desktop.htt file. I looked for this in the location above but the file isn't there!? I've made sure hidden files are shown. I did a system search for this file, and it drew a blank. I thought it might be a problem with my recent installation of IE7, but I've reinstalled this and it still doesn't make a difference. Has anyone got any ideas how to solve this? Thanks... middo 2006-11-09 10:21:09 UTC #2 I've got the same problem here, on a domain with 70 users! I'm currently talking with Microsoft tech support about this problem. It appears to a problem somewhere in the local profile in Documents and Settings which is not compatible with IE7. I have found two ways to fix the problem so far - Uninstall IE7 Login as an administrator and delete the users profile, when the user logs back in a new profile is created, but obviously you lose all the program settings - not the best way but it works middo 2006-11-09 16:25:12 UTC #3 Update, have now sorted a fix for this problem run regedit find this entry - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components change the key value - DeskHtmlVersion REG_DWORD 0x00000110(272) to decimal zero Close regedit log off and log back on. This has worked for all our XP clients middo 2006-11-09 17:03:26 UTC #4 Heres a basic script to change the above registry setting HKEY_CURRENT_USER = &H80000001strComputer = "."Set objReg = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\default:StdRegProv")strKeyPath = "Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components"strValue = "0"ValueName = "DeskHtmlVersion"objReg.Set
