domain sevices error has occured. additional data:error value(decimal):-1073741536 error value(hex):c0000120 internal Id:300162a event ID:1168 task catecory:internal processing source:active directory domain services I searched in google but http://www.networksteve.com/forum/topic.php/an_error_on_AD_DS_role_with_event_ID:1168_internal_processing/?TopicId=29606&Posts=4 I couldn't solve this problem. it is happened after I run DCpromo to promote my 2008r2 server as domain controller. thanks johanh.david April 30th, 2012 4:41pm Hi, Please refer following KB http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/event-id-1168-error-after-dcpromo-to-ad-dc.709626/ article and see if that helps "Directory Services cannot start" error message when you start your Windows-based or SBS-based domain controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062A UNIVERSE without WINDOWS is CHAOS ! If DC machine accounts reside in an alternate OU container, either move all DC machine accounts to the domain controllers OU or link the default domain controllers policy to the alternate OU container (not a best practice).Verify that the file system portion of default domain controllers policy exists in the SYSVOL share of the DC being used to apply policy on the computer being promoted or demoted. If not present, evaluate whether that condition is due to simple replication latency, a replication failure in FRS / DFSR, or whether the policy has been deleted from the SYSVOL. Resolve as required. The default domain policy or policy in general is not applying to
running DCPROMO to make my machine active directory/domain controller the computer hangs at "Applying Network Settings" on bootup for exactly 210 seconds and then boots into Windows. The only error in Event Viewer is: ------------------------- Event Type: Error Event Source: NTDS General Event Category: Internal Processing Event ID: 1168 Date: 2/13/2009 Time: 1:14:31 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON Computer: CONCORD2003 Description: Internal error: An Active Directory error has occurred. Additional Data Error value (decimal): 1053 Error value (hex): 41d Internal ID: 3000502 -------------------- I've went into DS safe mode and ran the semantic checker: go fix thing and it didn't report any errors. I'm really stumped. I was at this point a few days ago and installed Exchange 2003 and it tanked the whole system. Wouldn't shutdown after installing Exchange (left it shutting down overnight). When I powered it back up it locked at "applying computer settings" (I left it there for a few hours). I've axed and re-loaded it and am getting this error again after running DCPROMO and I would rather not try installing Exchange again untill I get this resolved. I'm running Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 with SP2 with all of the windows updates done. I am VERY new to DNS, AD, DC, etc., and followed this walkthrough on how to set up DNS prior to running DCPROMO: http://www.petri.co.il/install_and_configure_windows_2003_dns_server.htm nslookup works dcdiag finds no problems other then complaining that the "dns caching" service is stopped, but I can not find this service in services.msc to start it. This is a very simple network. I was running a workgroup setup on FAT32, but purchased Exchange 2003 (for calender sharing) so have to go to ntfs/active directory/dc now. The server is connected to a router. I have assigned the server a static IP of 192.168.2.44 and default gateway of 192.168.2.1 (router) and put 192.168.2.44 for the DNS. U
