Active Sync Error 678
have Active Sync Error 678develop between their USB-connected PC & Jornada 720. There have also beennumerous helpful suggestions from members, however I can't find any reply ofa particular solution working. Is this the unsolvable problem? The Microsoft solutionhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=289706 is not ideal for me asit is requires using serial and not USB.I can get a painfully slow serial connection to work but not USB that I amused to.The strange things is that for 3 years, I have had no problem with myvarious PCs (W98,W2K,XP), Activesync (3.1/5/6/7) & my Jornada 720.The other week I had to reinstall my OS and programs on my current primaryWindows XP Professional PC - following a corrupt registry. Now after installing Activesync and connecting my J720 via USB & the cradle,I got:1. On my PC, Hardware not recognised etc.2. On my J720, "Can't start communications ...(Error 678)".I think the only difference is that last time I got it working I installedActivesync 3.5 then later upgraded to 3.7. This time I went straight to 3.7.I suspect the problem might be with the driver for the Jornada 720's cradle.I'm pretty sure that the driver installed OK in the past. I tried pluggingit to the various USB ports and got the same message. Does anyone know whatthe Windows driver that recognises the 720 cradle is called and what versionit should be?Any help would be greatly appreciated.RegardsAdrian Raj Pillai 2004-05-16 13:43:11 UTC PermalinkRaw Message Post by Adrian BellHi,I've seen a number of postings from people who have Active Sync Error 678develop between their USB-connected PC & Jornada 720. my Compaq Armada 1750 portable that I use with a docking station to connect to the LAN at the office. No luck ! The J720-Compaq physical link is working, but I get the following error message on the J720 after about 6 attempts : "Cannot start communications with the dektop computer. Remote networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 678). Please reconnnect your device....." On the Compaq in MS Active Sync I get the message : "Your device was not detected". Any suggestions ???? Top 1. Active Sync 3.6 not working with IPAQ 3660 or HP Jornada 720 Hi, After upgrading ActiveSync 3.5 to ActiveSync 3.6 on a MS Windows XP operated system, I cannot sync my IPAQ 3660 nor my HP Jornada 720 anymore. Synchronization works fine with an IPAQ 3850. After downgrading to ActiveSync 3.5 I am able to synchronize data again successfully. Guess not all devices are supported by ActiveSync 3.6 anymore...... 2. Software Distribution and NT SP4 3. Jornada 720 - LAN thru active sync cable 4. Slowness of Telnet 5. RASDial Error 678 6.
