Ad-Aware AE: Connection error when clicking web update. by John on May 12th, 2009. If you're experiencing a 'connection error' when clicking web-update please try updating from the start menu (Start->All Programs->Lavasoft->Ad-Aware and click 'Ad-Aware Updates') or use one of the workarounds below. 1. Go to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware and right click onAAWService.exe, select properties in popup menu and in the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (service Pack 2)" , click ‘apply’ then ‘ok’. Do the same for Ad-AwareAdmin.exe and then retry the web-update. 2. Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and locate "Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service". Stop the Service (if started) and then right click/properties. Under Logon, check "Allow service to interact with desktop", click OK and restart the service and then retry the web-update. For some reason, even with IE not being my default browser, there are a bunch of applications dependant on the connectivity interface of IE. Ashampoo is the better of the two you listed so that is what I'd suggest you use unless you don't like it for some reason. Also, when enabling/disabling a firewall always follow that with a reboot or in some cases your action will not be "active". Also verify your firewall permissions as stated in this http://free.avg.com/ww.faq.num-1334. The following will help with routing table issues... 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn off any router or hub that your computer may be plugged into. 3. Turn off the cable/dsl modem. 4. Wait for a couple of minutes. 5. Turn on the cable/dsl modem. 6. Wait for a couple of minutes. 7. Turn on any router or hub that your computer may be plugged into. 8. Wait for a couple of minutes. 9. Finally turn back on your computer.
