Both computers run idential XP operating systems and McAfee Internet Security. Both computers are connected through the same network with a Linksys ad aware router. All other access to the internet works perfectly. The laptop, which I use 20% of the time is fully able to connect to LavaSoft and get updates. The desktop, which I use 80% of the time receives an immediate "connection error, check your settings." Failed to Connect to Service Started by catsby , Sep 27 2011 10:32 AM Please log in to reply 5 replies to this topic #1 catsby catsby Member Members 13 posts Posted 27 September 2011 - 10:32 AM I am using free Ad-Aware 9.5 to which I upgraded recently (August 28, 2011) from the previous version. It did update the database after installation. For some time now (I can’t tell how long as I have not run it since installation), when I try to open it, it hangs on “Loading…” and after a minute or two it produces the message: “Connection Error, Failed to connect to service.” Needless to say that I gave it full access with my firewall. What’s wrong and how can I correct it? If it's not in the computer, it doesn't exist. Please, try the suggestions there. Back to top #3 catsby catsby Member Members 13 posts Posted 28 September 2011 - 07:15 PM Thanks a lot CeciliaB, that link you sited fixed it! The Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service was disabled. Come to think of it, I must have disabled it myself some time ago to stop Ad-Aware from starting every time, and forgot about it, which I find somewhat embarrassing. Now I’ve just turned the Ad-Watch Live off. And it was not easy to find how to do that, Lavasoft may consider making it more prominent. If it's not in the computer, it doesn't exist. Back to top #4 CeciliaB CeciliaB Volunteer Moderator 9398 posts Posted 28 September 2011 - 10:42 PM You are welcome, catsby! I am glad it is solved, regardless of the reason. Maybe Lavasoft does not want persons without computer knowledge to find where to turn off Ad-Watch Back to top #5 B. FInkel B.
