I have a single ADAT i use to to get it from to get the tapes off of satans recording tool and into Pro Tools. I never got a manual for this ADAT when I bought it off Ebay. The tapes I got wont play it and I keep getting first a no good time code eror then error 7 I cleaned the heads once what can I do here. Do I just go rent a machine for the day. The tape will not be allowed to be threaded while this condition is present. noFO indicates tape is unformatted (see UNFORMATTED TAPE document) Prot indicates tape is write-protected (record tab has been removed) when trying to record. (see this link for more). Reinitialize deck Hold down "record" and "play" while powering up. (On the LX-20 only: Just hold down "Record" while powering up.) Check head hours If you are an ADAT owner, you MUST keep track of how many hours are on the deck's heads. Here's how: Hold down "set locate" and "stop." The display shows the number of hours on the heads. Check software version Hold down "set locate" and "fast forward." The following are the last versions of EPROM (hard chip) software. According to Alesis (3/2003) these will not be updated any longer so these are final: ADAT ("blackface"): 4.03 XT: 1.07 XT20: 2.01 LX20: 1.01 M20: 3.00 (not a chip- done by MIDI) To buy the chips, contact Alesis: (310) 821-5000 Error Rate Display To access a numerical readout of the error rate, hold down "set locate" and press "record enable 3" (under the level meter for track 3). The display briefly shows "diSP Err," and the error rate shows up in the right half of the time counter. The time is bumped over one column to make room for this new info, and the minutes are now diplayed in the hours column. (I noticed that on XTs and XT20s, if your tapes are formatted at 44.1k, this compact time display may be inaccurate, but the error rate is correct.) Occasional bursts of error rates up to 10 or 15 are no problem. Rates above 30-40 may indicate the need for a head cleaning or your tape brand may not be a good choice. To
