I have a single ADAT i use to to get it from to get the tapes off of satans recording tool and into Pro Tools. I never got a manual for this ADAT when I bought it off Ebay. The tapes I got wont play it and I keep getting first a no good time code eror then error 7 I cleaned the heads once what can I do here. Do I just go rent a machine for the day. I know this means "clean the transport" so I did. The error still remained. As a last ditch effort, I tried formatting while recording. This worked fine. I was afraid that the deck was out of alignment which would suck because it has less than 20 hours on it. When I got it back to the studio I tried a bunch of tapes in it and all played just fine. I then swapped the #1 deck's tapes for the "Error 7" deck and again, the tapes played fine on both machines. So it isn't an obvious alignment problem. What could be the problem? Just reformat (as you did) and you'll be OK. Yes ADAT tape machines still can be adat error useful today becausethey are portable, and they still sound very good. Plus they areeasy to setup and to use right away, as any tape based machine is.
