Nxserver Commands

(Name Server Cache Daemon) is running on the host machine, some delay in updating the cache can occur.  In this case, even if NX server has been previously correctly uninstalled, and the user nx removed from the system, the 'id nx' can still be present in the cache and your next attempt to install NX server can fail nomachine with error: NX> 704 ERROR: Cannot add user: nx. User: nx already exists.NX> 704 ERROR: Please try to fix the problem by reinstalling the server. In a similar way, it could also happen that the nx user has been created on the system during the NX Server installation, but the cache is still not updated. In this case, the 'chown' command issued during the installation procedure could fail, for example with error: NX> 700 ERROR: Output: chown: unknown user id nx.NX> 700 ERROR: Cannot set ownership attributes for '/usr/NX/etc/passwords.db.lock' to 'nx:root' In order to solve both these issues, you may try to stop and restart the NSCD process:

Hi i am a xubuntu newbie so bear with me. I tried running FreeNx Client Node and Server however i couldn't get it to work. I looked around on the net and found an install nx guide for linux. Someone else also had problems with FreeNx. On this user nx to guide it tells you to remove all freenx packages installed. To do this i used terminal and did:- sudo dpkg -r nxserver sudo dpkg -r nxclient sudo dpkg -r nxnode It also says that all files or libraries should be removed, which i am a bit puzzled about. Anyway i downloaded the NX Desktop Server, NX Client, NX Node deb files. And tried re-installing. Client then Node installed ok. When it came to installing the NX server again by double clicking the file the manager starts then stops and shows terminal, the following is shown:- Setting up nxserver (3.0.0-69)... NX>704 ERROR: Cannot add user: nx User: nx already exists NX>704 ERROR: Please try to fix the problem be reinstalling the server. dpkg:error processing nxserver (--install): sub process post-installation script returned error exit status 1 ive tried reinstalling but the same shows everytime. The problem is with this User: nx how to remove it? I would appreciate ant advice im really stuck, this is driving me bonkers. I tried the NX website for answers theres nothing on there. Thanks, Mark. Reply With Quote 2007-10-10,11:58 #2 Robin Bowes Guest Anyone know how to reinstall NX server? Ashy72 wrote: > The problem is with this User: nx how to remove it? man userdel

I even completely removed it and reinstalled it but still no go. When I try to connect I get this : NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 2376 NX> 285 Enabling check on switch command NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files NX> 285 Setting the preferred NX options NX> 200 Connected to address: 192.168.1.3 on port: 22 NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey NX> 204 Authentication failed. The strange thing is that it says authenticating user nx while I'm using my own username. I don't know if it's normal. I tried about everyting I found on the net, enabling and disabling encryption in the client, regenerating keys with the keygen command, checking my user with the --usercheck option which created my correct ssh keys etc... Nothing works. I know I had a hard time getting the previous version to work as well but I forget how I fixed it. So for as far as I can see in the error, it's all about key issues, but I don't know how to get it fixed. Reply With Quote 01-May-2009
