Another good trick I learned a little while ago that may help is to right-click the Outlook icon in the system tray while holding down Ctrl, which reveals an extra diagnostic option called 'Test E-mail Autoconfiguration'. That threw up a problem which very quickly led to the root cause when I last saw this error. The KB article that BizDPS said helped him, did not help me: Exchange Server 2007 In Exchange Management Console, expand Server Configuration, and then click Mailbox. In the Database address book Management window, right-click Properties on the mailbox store. Click the Client Settings tab, click Browse, and then click the appropriate offline address book. Click OK two times. It seems as though when I look into the EMC for Exchange 2010, step #3 above does not apply, there is no "client settings" tab :(, just "general" offline address book and "status" tabs. This seems to only be an issue on the outlook 2003 clients, the 2007, and 2010 clients do not seem to get this error. These machines are also up to date as far as I know (service packs wise). *Something I noticed was that the client was also not able to manually download the GAL when forced to, and I noticed that one of the entries on the clients machine (in the GAL) was not on the exchange server anymore (it was removed at least 6 months ago). Which version do I have? More... This feature requires you to use a Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, Exchange Server 2003, or Exchange Server 2007 account. Most home and personal accounts do not use Microsoft Exchange. Cached Exchange Mode is recommended. The Offline Address Book contains the properties of a user, such as e-mail addresses, that Microsoft Outlook requires in order to send an e-mail message and display information about the user. By using the Offline Address Book, Outlook does not have to connect to Exchange in order to resolve names or open the records for each user. This reduces network traffic and improves performance. Note: We recommend that you download the full details of the Offline Address Book. This makes more address book information available when there is no network connectivity. If Outlook is left running constantly in Cached Exchange Mode, it updates the Offline Address Book automatically about once a day, depending on Address Book updates on the server running Exchange. To initiate these updates manually, do the following: On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and then click Download Address Book. Under Information to download, click Full Details or No Details.
