• VIEW ALL • PRINT • NEXT >> • "No Such AVI Compressor" by Macohead on Oct 19, 2006 at 9:56:40 pm Hello, I am trying to alter an AVI I have, but everytime I try to open it in AE I get the error "No Such AVI Compressor" .... Here are the file details: Audio Codec: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (44100Hz - 192kb/s, Stereo) Video Codec: DX50/Divx (DivX 5.x/6.x) Any ideas as to why I can't open these files? Thanks for your help, much appreciated! I don't use DIVX, so I can't tell you how to go about getting it. I bet Google can help, however.Dave LaRonde Sr. Promotion Producer KCRG-TVReturn to posts indexReport Post•Re: "No Such AVI Compressor"by Macohead on Oct 20, 2006 at 1:19:17 am Thanks for responding... No I have DivX installed on this computer, and I have no problems looking at other DivX compressed files... just won't recognize the ones I need it too! Although they work fine using Windows Media Player...Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: "No Such AVI Compressor"by Mylenium on Oct 20, 2006 at 5:41:06 amDivX is evil and AE was never meant to handle it. DivX is a strictly DirectDraw CoDec with DRM and other dirty tricks. On top of that, each version of DivX is different and as you already have found out, that is why some of them work and others don't. If I may be so straight: Don't waste time trying to fix this problem in AE. Download VirtualDub or a similar tool and convert your AVIs to uncompressed or another suitable format that AE accepts. After that take a sheet of white paper and write on it 1000 times: "I will never ever use DivX again and swaer to switch to Quicktime for all my work." ;o) Mylenium[Pour MylReturn to posts indexReport Post•Re: "No Such AVI Compressor"by Shawn L on Oct 20, 2006 at 6:47:21 pmNot that I disagree with you about the DiVX thing but, QuickTime is far from perfect. my video from my cam using premiere, but I wanted to work with them in AE and so I exported them as Uncompressed AVI's. When I try importing them in AE, I constantly get the "no such avi compressor" error message. I've had this problem dozen of times before, but I never really solved it. I tried exporting the video from Premiere using the Quicktime container, which worked fine. Is this a better way or will this reduce my video quality? Judging by this single file it's hard to tell if the quality is worse compared to AVI. I want the method to be as easy as possible as I have a lot of files to import. I'd prefer https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/889837 not to sacrifice quality either. I tried importing the file into AE by selecting "all files" and switch the format to "Quicktime Movie" and it works partially. It imports the audio, but the video is all white. Thanks in advance! Marthax communist30th June 2006, 13:53Hi all! I've captured all my video from my cam using premiere, but I wanted to work with them in AE and so I exported them as Uncompressed AVI's. Why do you export as http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-112995.html uncompressed avi? There is no gain in quality in that. Just export the dv clips as dv avis and import them that way. Or do you mean dv compressed with "Uncompressed AVI's"? Marthax30th June 2006, 13:58no, I mean "Uncompressed Microsoft AVI". Ok, so you're saying that there's no difference between "Microsoft DV Avi" and ""Uncompressed Microsoft AVI" in terms of quality? communist30th June 2006, 14:11No there isnt if you're source is a DV camcorder. The captured files in Premiere are already compressed (with the Camcorders DV codec), exporting them to uncompressed avi doesnt improve quality at all - just increases filesize. Just open the captured clips in After Effects. Or export as DV compressed with "Always recompress" turned off from Premiere if you need to work on edited footage. Marthax30th June 2006, 14:28Oh, didn't know that. Thanks. One thing though. When working inside AE, I the interlacing is really obvious, but I goes away if I use ".... fields first". Question, do I use upper of lower fields first becuase it doesn't seem matter which one I pick. communist30th June 2006, 17:08DV is always BFF (Bottom FF) = Lower Field First. Wrong field order will result in jerky output when rendered. When you render out interlaced make sure you set the required field order aswell. Marthax30th June 2006, 19:50DV is always BFF (Bottom FF) = Lower Field First. Why is that? Oh,

(-2147205007) (53::33) Most likely your video from the powershot is an mpeg video pretending to be an avi. If so, you probably won't ever get it to work in AE. Investigate a freeware app called VirtualDub to see if you can convert it to a usable format.
