Unsupported IClasspathEntry kind=4 up vote 62 down vote favorite 28 As the title mentioned http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11832647/an-internal-error-occurred-during-updating-maven-project I have the following problem: I use Eclipse with Maven Nature and when I update my Maven Project, I get this error: An internal error occurred during: "Updating Maven Project". Unsupported IClasspathEntry kind=4 The solution that always comes back is the following: rightclick project, remove maven nature mvn eclipse:clean (with project open in eclipse/STS) (sometimes they suggest to do mvn eclipse:eclipse next) rightclick project and reenable maven nature Now I exhaustively tried all combinations http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15065093/an-internal-error-occurred-during-updating-maven-project-unsupported-iclassp several times. But I always keep getting the above error. The error starting occurring when I had to mvn eclipse:eclipse the project. Before it was always running fine using only m2eclipse features and setting everything in eclipse. eclipse maven m2eclipse pom.xml share|improve this question edited Jun 25 at 9:11 sudo bangbang 2,87631434 asked Feb 25 '13 at 10:42 Vjeetje 2,89021433 What Eclipse version are you using? Have you identified the suspicious classpath entry in the .classpath file? How does it look like? Maybe it is added by some Eclipse plugin. –SpaceTrucker Feb 25 '13 at 12:31 I'm using Eclipse SDK,Version: 4.2.1,Build id: M20120914-1800, doesn't the .classpath file get deleted by mvn eclipse:clean? I added the .classpath file in the original post. –Vjeetje Feb 25 '13 at 12:38 add a comment| 13 Answers 13 active oldest votes up vote 146 down vote accepted I had to do it slightly different to work for me: rightclick project, remove maven nature (or in newer eclipse, "Maven->Disable Maven Nature") mvn eclipse:clean (with project open in eclipse/STS) delete the project in eclipse (but do not delete the sources) Import existing Maven project share|improve this answer edited Feb 5 '14 at 21:30 karl li 33737 answered Feb 25 '13 at 13:43 Vjeetje 2,89021433 1 thanx, it helped in my case &

When m2e encounters a "var" .classpath entry, it throws this error. The update sites are specified at the following url: http://eclipse.org/m2e/m2e-downloads.html If you can't use m2e 1.5.0 for any reason, then : Disable the maven nature for the project (via the right-click menu) Run mvn eclipse:clean (while your project is open in STS/eclipse). Depending on the timing, you might need to do a refresh or two on the project before re-enabling the maven nature. You should be able to see that your project has lost it's Maven nature. (The eclipse:clean goal just deletes the .project, .classpath and .settings/ file
