writingsMy Web sitesBlogExternal linksSite news Search Unexpected error (1072) occurred at line 5218 in setup.c Details Created: 11 October 2005 This problem almost made me return a brand new 2.5" hard drive to TigerDirect. I installedthe drive in my portable, and tried to install an operating system. However, Windows XP setup failed with the error An unexpected error (1072) occurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c. Press any key to continue. I also tried to install a copy of MS-DOS, but FDISK failed; or rather, it seemed to have succeeded, but when I checked the disk, there was no partition table on it. Why? I tried various jumper settings (cable select vs. primary) to no effect. I checked Google, but couldn't find anything useful either. I looked at my BIOS... and that's where, eventually, it hit my eye: I had the setting that protects the boot sector from accidental (or malicious) overwrite was ON. I turned it off, and presto: everything worked well afterwards. Web site copyright © 1995-2016 Viktor T. Toth Powered by Joomla!®

When I start again, my bios does not see the hard drive or hard drives if I install more than one. I have to either https://www.vttoth.com/CMS/technical-notes/93-unexpected-error-1072-occurred-at-line-5218-in-setupc clear the cmos or power down and clear any power left in the motherboard. All my hard drives are Seagate and new. One of the hard drives loads to where windows will start before asking what partition to write to with this error; an unexpected error (32769) ocurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c. After installing a brand new Samsung 160GB hard drive in an HP Pavilion ZE2000 https://forums.techguy.org/threads/error-pxe-mof-exiting-pxe-rom-no-operating-system-found.1097665/ laptop I put the installation disk into the CD drive after the "Windows setup" finished running a message popped onto the screen that stated "An unexpected error (52225) occurred at line 5218 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c." then an unexpected down on the next line it said "Press any key to continue", so I pressed enter and it appeared that the computer was going to allow me to continue to load Windows XP. I hit F8 and agreed to the terms and after pressing enter to continue the loading process the message keeps coming up that "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a an unexpected error valid Windows CD" (The CD I am using is the original one that came with my computer and is a valid copy of Windows XP.) Then in the next paragraph it basically tells me to put a valid copy of Windows 98, XP, 2000 etc.... once the CD has been inserted press enter to continue....I press enter to continue and the same message keeps coming up. I have no clue as to what to do. Is there anyone who has any idea what I need to do next (other than throwing my computer in front of a fast moving train...lol) Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. NOTE: Other than the new hard drive nothing else has been changed on this computer.
