on my computer. I cannot install it, maybe you can help me? First off, I'm not a new computer user, but I am new to Windows XP. My computer http://quesby.com/qna/nayakafi/813/an-unexpected-error-occured-at-line-1768-in-d-xpclient-base-boot-setup-arcdisp-c is 1000Mhz AMD processor, 160Mb RAM, 8Mb Graphics Card, 20Gb Hard drive. I have successfully installed Windows 2000, Windows 98 and various versions of Linux on my machine [on different Hard drives]. Starting off with a clean formatted hard drive with one 20Gb partition, I boot from the CD. It boots ok, and says "press F2 to load SCSI drivers, press F6 to do an unexpected something else, then gives this error message: "An unexpected error occured at line 1768 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c" What does this mean? I have tried it with two different legitimate copies of Windows XP professional edition and get the same error. Do I need a graphics card with more memory? 15 Answers Found Read top section: http://www.aumha.org/elist/trenches.htm By saubalod on Feb 03 so now I an unexpected error need a thing to properly clean my harddrive. Any ideas? Preferably DOS based and free. By iditrvas on Feb 03 FDISK will remove virtually everything from your HDD Be sure to clear the master boot record when you are done FDISK /MBR www.fdisk.com By ekantrcp on Feb 03 Yes, I have already tried this [more than once]. The problem seems to be with FDISK itself, in that on certain HP hard drives it does not actually clean everything off the drive. So, the solution is to use a better utility. My query was whether anyone knew of such a tool that can be used in the same manner as FDISK, but does a better job of cleaning the hard drive. By abhisqbe on Feb 03 Was a utility used to make the partition? Like partition magic or something like that ? I have never found a HDD that I could not clean with FDISK Using the FDISK /MBR will clean the master boot record This is sometimes needed to finish the job When you used FDISK was anything left on the HDD? Al NON DOS partition were gone.....
