This discussion is locked MartinVaughan Level 1 (0 points) Q: Fatal error during installation I have been using Itunes 8 for a couple of months or so. An option came up can't uninstall apple software update to install the latest upgrade of Itunes (8.1.1.10) which I selected and downloaded it. It install itunes went through the process but then failed to open. I then double clicked the desktop icon and it started the installation all the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable over again but then fails and comes up with "Fatal error during installation".I have tried to un-install all Itunes related programs inc of quicktime and then reinstall using the original CD I have with the same results.I am windows installer cleanup utility using Windows Vista.Please can someone assist as I am now without Itunes on my laptop and very upset!!! I then un-installed Itunes and re-installed with a fresh download from Itunes and same problem.I have gone into control panel to un-install all Apple related programs and one is failing to un-install - Apple Software update!! Half way through it comes back with an error "There is a problem with this window installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact...."I have also downloaded the stand alone Quicktime program from the exact website you mentioned and all installs correctly. Then you double click the desktop icon and it says the shortcut is invalid. I then open quicktime through the start button and it starts installing it again from stratch and displays the Fatal error during installation again!Wonder if it has anything to do with IE8? HRESULT: 0x80073715". After throwing this error it rolls back, but it doesn't cancel the installation, it keeps installing and then throws another error "Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." And than I have to cancel the installation and it rolls back. Strangely, if I take a look at my programs list, I see that it managed to install "Apple Software Update", "Bonjour" and another compatibility app. I tried removing these apps and starting a fresh install, but the same thing happened over and over again. I searched for a few solutions online but couldn't find anything helpful. Any ideas?
