Thursday, February 21, 2013 Active Server Pages, Event ID 5 I http://www.thefixerblog.com/2013/02/active-server-pages-event-id-5.html kept getting this error concerning a .NET 2.0 Application Pool in my IIS http://stackoverflow.com/questions/993665/iis-7-event-id-5-error on Server 2008 R2: Event ID: 5 The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool 'NameOfAppPool' because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes. It turns out that a folder that the application pool needed did not exist: C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\ASP application pool Compiled Templates I simply created the folder and changed its permissions to include Full Control for the identity that the App pool was assuming (usually NETWORK SERVICE). You could check that ASP was allowed on your installation of IIS In the IIS Manager, under ISAPI and CGI Restrictions, Is ASP.net allowed?
