Search on GeoNet Submit to ArcGIS Ideas Error: Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database Error Message The ArcGIS License Manager returns the following error:"FLEXlm Error -14,7Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database. The lookup for the hostname on the SERVER line in the license file failed. https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19455-01/806-1075/msgs-1117/index.html This often happens when NIS or DNS or the hosts file is incorrect. Workaround: User IP address (e.g., 123.456.789.123) instead of hostname." Cause The Desktop Administrator is configured to look for a license manager on a machine that cannot be found on the network. Solution or Workaround Open the Desktop Administrator. Start > Programs http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000002849 > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator.Select the 'License Manager' folder in the Desktop Administrator.Ensure that a proper license server host name or IP address is entered. Note:'not_set' indicates that this value has not been set. This usually occurs when the ArcGIS software has been installed before the License Manager was configured. Note:The Desktop Administrator checks to see that valid licenses exist before allowing a change to this field. Failure to allow a host name/IP address to be set indicates a firewall is blocking communication, or that the License Manager on that machine is down. TCP/IP is the required network protocol for Microsoft Windows and UNIX platforms. Novell networks can choose between TCP/IP or IPX/SPX, and problems related to Novell installations will be covered in a separate document. The BASIS License Manager (BLM) log file is a critical diagnostic tool when dealing with FLEXlm errors. In Windows, the log file is named blmgr.txt, and it is located in a directory called BASIS License Manager. This directory is below the BASIS products directory. In UNIX, the log file is named basis_lmgrd.log, and it is located in a directory called blmgr/log. This directory is created when files are extracted from the PRO/5 tar file. Samples from log files are shown in this document. In Windows NT and 95/98, the BLM appears as a Control Panel applet called FLEXlm License Manager. Running this applet and clicking the Status button will give you diagnostic information. The BASIS License Manager uses a third-party product called FLEXlm.
