Asp.net Mvc 3 Custom Error Pages

you're not alone. It's surprisingly difficult to do this correctly, not helped by the fact that some errors are aspnet mvc nuget handled by ASP.NET and others by IIS. Ideally (and I expect aspnet mvc source such is the case with some other frameworks/servers) we would just configure our custom error pages in aspnet mvc tutorial one place and it would just work, no matter how/where the error was raised. Something like:
Aspnet Mvc 5
404 error pages When a resource does not exist (either static or dynamic) we should return a 404 HTTP status code. Ideally we should return something a little friendlier to our site visitors than the error pages built in to ASP.NET/IIS, perhaps offering some advice on why the resource may not exist or providing an option aspnet mvc 4 to search the site. For the purposes of this blog post, my custom 404 page is very simple, but you can see some really nice examples here.
404 Page Not Found
I created a new ASP.NET MVC 5 application using the standard template in Visual Studio. If I run the site and try to navigate to a resource that does not exist e.g. /foo/bar, I'll get the standard ASP.NET 404 page with the following information: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /foo/bar Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.33440 Not exactly friendly, is it? In this case the error was raised by ASP.NET MVC because ithere for a quick overview of the site Help Center Detailed answers to any questions you might have Meta Discuss the workings and policies of this site About Us aspnet mvc cms Learn more about Stack Overflow the company Business Learn more about hiring developers

The one I am particularly interested in is a 404 error, but also 403, and others. I am new to the MVC framework, traditionally I come from a PHP background, but am learning quickly. I did my research before posting this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6512904/how-to-create-custom-404-error-pages-in-asp-net-mvc-3 and came across this link: Custom error pages on asp.net MVC3 That solution seems simple although when I try to implement that on my machine, I get a problem with the following line: IController errorsController = new ErrorsController(); inside the Application_Error() function. It says "The type or namespace name 'ErrorsController' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?". In a first step we will set up the custom error pages to handle errors occurring in "normal" non-AJAX requests and in a second step we custom error page add a little JavaScript jQuery code that handles jQuery AJAX errors. We start with a new (empty) ASP.NET MVC 3 project and activate custom errors in the Web.config by adding the following lines under
