Maybe the message says: "Setup cannot copy the file Atapi.sys". DAEMON Tools or Alcohol 120% are known to cause this behavior. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884675/en-us "You receive a "Copy Error: Setup cannot copy the file Atapi.sys" error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack". Also applies to Windows XP Service Pack 3.   Monday, June 23, 2008 5:02 AM Reply

Close all other application and then atapi.sys error service click Retry. This computer was infested with viruses and malware etc. I ran Spybot search & destroy, AVG anti virus (free version), malwarebyte's anti malware and combo fix. All in that order. Now malwarebyte's doesn't find anything infected on the computer but there's still a couple problems: 1. It's a desktop with a wireless network card, but I can't connect via WiFi. Before I ran ComboFix there was no problem at all. If I plug the ethernet cord in directly to the desktop, it works. 2. Google search results are being redirected. 3. Just-In-Time Debugging is constantly popping up. In the installation process, I get the following error message: "the install program cannot copy the 'atapi.sys file' from c\windows\system32\drivers" In the same installation window, another message suggests I use another location: if I understand well, I am supposed to create a folder called "Windows XP System Files" and "insert" it... However much I tried, I really do NOT understand what that means and have no idea on how to perform such a thing. If somebody has an idea, her/his advice would be much appreciated. PS: how do you strike the antislash "\" in Windows XP from a MacBook Pro AZERTY keyboard? satyor, Sep 4, 2008 #1 John@Parallels Messages: 6,450 Some files are either missed or corrupted, Suggestion. Use Windows XP CD with slipstreamed SP2 http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html and from within Windows run setup from that CD (backup VM first) Than download SP3 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=68c48dad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110 and install John@Parallels, Sep 6, 2008 #2 satyor Messages: 35 Thanks John for the very detailed suggestion The process seems very time-consuming though Since I use Windows mainly for electronic dictionaries which are not available for Mac, I decided not to update anymore. I also have to go on the web with Firefox for windows, that's true. Hope Windows will eventually leave me alone. If not, I'll follow your advice. Thanks again! satyor, Sep 7, 2008 #3 AshW Messages: 1 John, I am having a similar issue where the XP Service Pack 3 fails during installation. I've read the linked Slipstream article, download XP SP 3 from Microsoft. My virtual machine which is running Parrallels Desktop 6 has Windows XP SP 2 with all updates. Do I need to slipstream Windows XP SP 2 before Slipstreaming XP SP 3? I am a rookie in Windows, is this command line approach as straight forward as it appears?
