Solved Distributed Transaction Error Posted on 2000-11-17 Visual Basic Classic 1 Verified Solution 12 Comments 4,420 Views Last Modified: 2011-10-03 I have a problem of Distributed Transaction error. This seems to happen only when automation error there are two or more users (does not happen with a single user). Also, with two or more users, the problem happens on the first attempt to write the transaction. A repeat attempt on the same transaction succeeds. Here is the description: The system Involves a three-tier architecture. Database : MSSQL ver 7 Business Layer : MTS Databse and MTS are on separate machines. Client Configuration :PII-400, Windows 2000 vba automation error Server Configuration : PIII-600, Windows 2000 (At one site, SQL Server : PII-400, Windows NT) Software Developed using VB6 (for front end) approx. 250 forms MSSQL is at the back end. Business Layer is developed in VB6 with all class modules (178 class modules) having 'Requires Transactions' setting. DTC Timeout set to 60 seconds In multiuser environment, this system gets following errors frequently : 1) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Distributed transaction error 2)Runtime error 2147023170 (800706be) Automation error. The remote procedure call failed. 3)Runtime error 462 : The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable 4)Runtime error 2147023170 (800706be) Automation error. The remote procedure call failed My attempts so far: 1) DTC Timeout increased to 3600 seconds : [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Distributed transaction error - after more delay than with 60 seconds timeout 2) Configured the SQL Server to use TCP/IP rather than Named Pipes : No improvement in errors.
