EXCEL VBA up vote 0 down vote favorite I have a workbook which is throwing this error on opening. When it does and I open the VBA module, the current line is the definition of a sub. It's http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31888880/automation-error-catastrophic-failure-excel-vba working great most places but today I did my usual install and every time I go to scan I get this message: Error Number -2147418113 Automation Error Catastrophic Failure. The scanner is a HP LaserJet M1319fMFP and it does work with the software it came with. My software has also worked in the past with at least 10 different types of scanners. CianSoft (maker of the Twain OCX I use in my program) got me to run a few log files. Turns out that the HP driver for the 1319 isn't 100% TWAIN compliant. As I understand it, a TWAIN interface can be told to set 1 for Black, 0 for White or it can be told to do the reverse (1 for White, 0 for Black). The default is 1 for black but just to be safe the Ciansoft's OCX s

I automation error wrote macros and user defined functions in my spreadsheet, which can also import dynamic data from quote system. In addition, I also select a new web query. Everything looks fine but after I close the spreadsheet and reopen it, it just shows "Automation Error, Catastrophic failure" and it seems that the spreadsheet got stock when calculating the UDF. Please help! I think a macro and UDF should work well in the same spreadsheet, right? Dennis I can't 'find "ISMISSING" in the reference. I'm using Excel 2000 with XP. I don't know if that is the reason but I got another weird problem: I wrote a small macro to call Solver in the questionable spreadsheet. It only has four spreadsheets initially but after I found out the error message "Automation Error, Catastrophic failure" and whenever I reset the VBE, I got an extra worksheet. So I can see from the project explorer that I have 48 sheets now! Please, any idea to delete all those sheets and also solve my spreadsheets problems? Thanks very much. jJ Share Share this post on Digg Del.icio.us Technorati Twitter Reply With Quote Aug 28th, 2002,05:46 AM #4 Juan Pablo González MrExcel MVP Join Date Feb 2002 Location Bogota, Colombia Posts 11,959 After a PM (Please post questions here...), I found that this: If IsE

It has been working fine, but this morning when I opened it and enabled the macros I got the message: "Automation error. Catastrophic failure." This opened the VBA editor, which was useless since you can't even view code in a Shared workbook. Then Excel crashed. Several people on the network tried to open the file, and got the same error message (and resulting crash...) Finally, we re-opened the file, disabled the macro, and removed "Sharing" (so I could view the code when the error occured)--but couldn't get the error to occur again, even after reinstating the "Sharing" property. It's been working since, but this workbook is actually for a client, so I would like to make sure it doesn't happen when they are using it (clients don't like words like "Catastrophic" or "Failure" on their computer screens). Anyone have any experience with this type of error message or know what might be causing it? Thanks!
