Communication between Citrix server and COM+ server http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?426559-Automation-Error-Interface-not-registered-2147221163 is thru COM+ Proxy. User access of the application is thru PN Agent. Once in a while users are reporting the following error while they are middle of doing something. Error Number: -2147221163 Error Description:Automation Error. Interface not registered This is error is generated by VB code. Please note that this error happens randomly and not reproducible, few minutes after the occurrence of the error if the user goes to the same screen error wont appear and things will go smooth. I have developed a 3-tiered app using VB6, SQL Server 2000, automation error and COM+. I followed Microsoft's instruction to the letter when it came time to install, and then export the mid-tier piece. After installing the client app I receive the error message "Automation Error: Interface Not Registered". Multiple variations of this install process resulted in the same negative message until I included the mid-tier dll with the client install package. After this the app ran just fine. It still used the correct mid-tier dll (I know this because the mid-tier was vb6 automation error writing to a log I prepared for this purpose), which allowed the client app to gain access to the database. Must I include the mid-tier dll with the client install package in order to register the interface for the mid-tier piece? This seems totally contrary to how it should be done. Thanks for any help you are able to provide. Eric Reply With Quote 03-09-2002,11:17 AM #2 Anthony Jones Guest Re: Interface Not Registered Error Eric, The reason for installing the mid-tier dll on the client machines is that it contains the type library that COM will need to marshal calls to the mid-tier. If you compile your mid-tier component with the Remote Server Files option checked then you will also get a seperate type library, a .tlb file. When you install the component into COM+ select both your dll and the tlb file, you'll notice that the 'Select files to install' dialog already sets the File type filter for both .dll and .tlb. Now when you export COM+ will export the .tlb and not the dll. -- Anthony Jones Nuesoft Ltd Reply With Quote 03-09-2002,11:38 AM #3 Eric Hudson Guest Re: Interface Not Registered Error "Anthony Jones"
