Software Version: N/A Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Problem: I am getting error -2147023170 when doing ActiveX Calls to Microsoft Excel. Why is this occurring? Solution: This error is caused when doing repeated ActiveX calls very quickly. It can take Excel more time to actually close itself than your VI might be allowing it. If you try to reopen Excel (or a workbook file) before it finishes closing, you will get this error. Please see the attached KnowledgeBase from Microsoft for more information on this (and other) errors. To fix this, add about a 50 ms delay to the end of your subVI which does the repeated ActiveX calls. This should prevent the error from occurring. It is easiest to do this by wiring the final error cluster as a dummy input to a sequence structure where you have a 50 ms delay (see example below).Note:Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are powerful standard software packages for creating reports. Because of their popularity, some LabVIEW users choose to program LabVIEW ActiveX applications to dynamically control these document packages for generating reports from LabVIEW. The complexity of the ActiveX interface of those packages, however, makes the development of custom applications difficult. With the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office, you no longer have to learn the complex object models of Microsoft Word and Excel to generate a report. The Report Generation Toolkit is a library of flexible, easy-to-use VIs for programmatically creating and editing Microsoft Word and Excel reports from LabVIEW. The product page for the Report Generation Toolkit is linked below.
