It is supposed to be backing up to Time Capsule but not sure if it's ever worked. It's actually not mine but if there was something quick to check, I'd appreciate it. thx time-machine time-capsule share|improve

Select a disk (the Time Capsule should show up ok). You should get a message that TM is starting in 2 minutes.. If that has problems, can you post here again.. edit 1 was an issue with computer name needing to be set (see in comments) share|improve this answer edited Jul 30 '12 at 19:39 timpone 260314 answered Jul 23 '12 at 19:39 David DelMonte 1,67272136 Thx for answer. We did this and got the countdown. When it went to backup, we got the same error. We put in the correct password for Time Capsule. Just at a loss because it is not really clear what next should be such as determining whether a Time Capsule issue or config of Time Machine –timpone Jul 23 '12 at 19:59 Was that after you erased the disk - see below...? –David DelMonte Jul 29 '12 at 18:07 sorry, the issue was that we needed to set the computer name. Once we did that it worked fine. –timpo

Thanks Received: 0 Trophy Points: 4 I am at my wits' end trying to get this to work. I have read the manual and followed the direction https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/time-machine-afp-help.10525/ but still no luck. Any feedback/help is appreciated. Here is my set up: I am running FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE on a home-built box. I have an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 I have created a RAIDZ1 volume with http://www.codedifferent.com/2012/10/13/howtofix-time-machine-error-image-of-sparsebundle-already-in-use/ 5x1TB disks, named /mnt/HomeNas1, with Owner as nobody and Group as nobody, permission of 755. I have created a user with the following settings: User ID: 1002 Username: Maggie Primary Group ID: HomeUsers Home Directory: /mnt/HomeNas1/TMachine Full backup disk Name: Maggie Home Directory Mode: 755 Disable password login: unchecked Lock user: unchecked On my Mac, the admin user name is also Maggie. The password for Maggie on both FreeNas and Mac is the same. I have created a dataset named /mnt/HomeNas1/TMachine with a quota of 80G. Owner(user): Maggie Owner(Group): HomeUsers permission of 755 An AFP share with the name of TMachine as been created with: Path: /mnt/HomeNas1/TMachine Allow List: Maggie Read-Write Access: backup disk image Maggie Disk Discovery: checked Disk discovery mode: Time Machine Services AFP has been configured as: Server Name: freenas Guest Access: unchecked When I turn on Time Machine on my iMac, I see the AFP share that I created "TMachine on freenas". When I select it, the connection bar appears. Then it asks me for my username and password. After I enter the info, I get: Time Machine can't access the backup disk "TMachine". The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 13.) I have also created a NFS share for a different dataset. I can connect to the NFS share from my iMac without a problem. Thanks. Any help is appreciated. First, I'd take out the Home Directory entry -- Maggie's Home Directory isn't the Time Machine Directory. I'd also try turning on guest access to see if that works -- if so, at least you know t

to be a boon for backup-dorks. And I think most of us belong to that species 😉 Most of the time TimeMachine works well in the background. The only point you may recognize it is the temporary performance loss if the backup is running. But yesterday, nothing worked any more: Time Capsule reported an error: "Time Machine Error - The Backup disk image „/***/***/***.sparsebundle“ is already in use." Problem: Time Machine and the connected Time Capsule assume, that there is a backup process still running. In my case, a cold (but necessary) restart of my Mac was the reason for the confusion. Solution: Unfortunately a restart of my Mac did not help. The problem is the Time Capsule itself, which has to release the established connection. You can fix that problem with the AirPort Utility under Programs/Utilities. The brand new AirPort Utility Version 6.1 has only one function you can use: The restart of the Time Capsule. But that did not help in my case. Weird but true: the old AirPort Utility Version 5.6.1 comes with much more features … especially "Disconnect all users …". This is exactly what we need to solve our Time Machine error! So you just need to open the 5.6.1 version of the AirPort Utility, open the Time Capsule with a double click and open the tab "Disks" and press the button "Disconnect all users …". In order to solve the problem like I described before, I had to work around an other problem: How to install the old AirPort Utility version 5.6.1 on my Mac running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion?! The old AirPort-Utility version works well under 10.8, but the installation routine will not allow to install it. Luckily, Frank Tisellano helps us out with am Automator workflow to extract the App from the installation bundle. In my case I had to open the "AirPort Utility Extractor" Skript in Automator to run the commands in the terminal manually. I hope, that howToFix saves one or the other some time … 15 Comments Ken on October 24, 2012 at 5:24 am Apparently in Airport Utility 6.0 you can Edit your TC settings, go to disk, and deselect "Enable file sharing", then Update. The TC will reboot and all connected users will be disconnected. Check your backups now occur then you can re-enable. tbo on November 6, 2012 at 8:20 am Great! Everything's fine again.
